WHAT WE’RE OFFERING
The OSP Facilities Technician works in United’s Outside Plant Construction department and is responsible for identifying, locating, and marking all underground Fiber and Copper facilities.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Duties include the following, but other duties may be assigned as required.
- Ability to use company-provided locate equipment and technology to accurately locate underground utilities.
- Ability to read maps, system prints, and navigate systems such as Google Earth.
- Determine efficient routes to each locate in both rural and urban areas.
- Ability to work in all types of terrain.
- Use a laptop computer to receive, document, and send emails.
- Ability to work independently without supervision.
- Ability to communicate and interact daily with managers, crews, and homeowners to discuss locate issues.
- Remove and replace manhole lids and interpret job order tickets.
- Perform other work-related duties as assigned.
- Able to work on-call for nights and weekends to facilitate emergency locates.
WHAT YOU BRING
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- PC Skills – ability to efficiently use company support systems, email, and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Valid TN driver’s license and satisfactory driving record.
- Ability to read and interpret fiber records, staking sheets, specification sheets, circuit diagrams, and engineering drawings.
- Strong communication skills for professional interactions through email, spreadsheets, and presentations. Must maintain good relationships and communicate effectively between departments.
- Self-motivated, detail-oriented, and organized with the ability to meet deadlines.
- Ability to carry, climb, and operate ladders (up to 75 lbs).
- Ability to operate hand tools, electric drills, test sets, and a company vehicle.
- Knowledge of basic mathematics and consumer electronics.
- High level of integrity and professional values.
