The Senior Buyer is responsible for purchasing products that fall in line with our financial goals and plans and Buying Process to achieve the Tuckernuck overall strategy set by our Founders. This is a highly relationship-driven position while developing and managing relationships between the Tuckernuck Buying Team, the vendor community (new and existing) and the internal Tuckernuck Team. With a strong focus on the financial performance of their brands, the Buyer should have a keen understanding of market trends and strong supplier relationships. This role plays a key part in maintaining an optimal product mix, driving profitability, and ensuring the timely delivery of goods.
Core Responsibilities
- Product Selection and Investment : Develop strategies by category and brand. Manage seasonal buying plans based on trends and sales data for assigned brand matrix and categories. Work closely with founders and directors to create selection of product and write all orders for the assortment from assigned brand matrix. Work closely with planning to strategize buy depth and utilize sales data to properly size and allocate the buy based on specific needs and data.
- Manage Buying Process : Attend seasonal market appointments with vendors to review newest brand assortments. Prepare historical recaps, gather line sheets and suggested assortments to review with the founders and directors of buying. Identify holes and opportunities in category assortment & review with buying team to ensure there is no duplication within the category.
- New Brand Management : Take on designated new brands that founders identify that are approved and execute buys following buying process. Ensure new brand offering is not duplicative within current brand matrix.
- Buy Tracking : Track buys as they are written to ensure monthly and seasonal and category plans are achieved. Ensure Buys by Category and other shared department or company-wide assortment documents are up to date and correct at all times.
- Vendor Relationship Management : Develop professional relationships with vendors and brands to ensure we are achieving our company goals. Utilize strong relationships with current and potential vendors, negotiating delivery and payment terms along with pricing and margin.
- Vendor Compliance : Communicate with / between vendors and logistics teams to understand shipment status and vendor compliance. Understand timelines and receipt deliveries and speak to status of shipments.
- Inventory Management and Brand Performance : Collaborate with planning teams to ensure proper stock levels and stock to sales ratio, manage replenishment, markdown initiatives and avoid overstock or stockouts.
- Sales Data Analysis : Analyze sales data to make informed purchasing decisions, forecast future needs, and improve product performance across brand matrix. Identify reorder opportunities within department budget along with RTV execution when applicable.
- Collaboration : Communicate crossfunctionally with necessary teams (ex : Production, Styling, Creative, Web Merchandising, Marketing, Samples) to ensure proper product lifecycle and sell through.
- Reporting & Documentation : Prepare reports for management regarding purchasing strategies and outcomes. Develop and report on third party products performance, weekly, monthly, and seasonally with emphasis on annual sales trends.
- Management & Training : Mentor and train Buying Coordinators and Sample Coordinators. Create mentorship program to teach and support education of all elements of the buying process. Act as project manager and team leader for evolving software offering.
