United Community Health Center is seeking a Behavior Health Director to join the Behavior Health team located in Green Valley, Arizona.
As a Behavior Health Director for an FQHC (Federally Qualified Health Center) serving the community of Southern Arizona, your role would be essential in ensuring the delivery of comprehensive behavioral health services to patients.
United Community Health Center is a Federally Qualified Community Health Center (FQHC), with 11 sites serving rural areas of Southern Arizona. Responsibilities
1. Leadership and Management:
- Provide strategic leadership and direction for the behavioral health department.
- Oversee the daily operations of the behavioral health program, including staffing, training, and supervision of clinical staff.
-Provides ongoing supervision of clinical staff, licensed and unlicensed, to ensure quality of care is present not only in direct services but in documentation as well.
-Provides management oversight to both adult and children programs.
-Responsible for Clinical Supervisors and associated teams, including management of annual evaluations, clinical interventions, patient issues or complaints, and agency issues or complaints.
-Responsible for the quality and quantity of work completed by assigned Clinical Supervisors and their respective teams.
2. Clinical Oversight:
- Develop and implement clinical protocols and evidence-based practices to ensure high-quality care for patients.
- Conduct regular case reviews and provide clinical supervision to staff members.
- Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of behavioral health programs and services.
-Works with assigned Clinical Supervisors to ensure clinical team members’ identified deficits are addressed and successes reinforced.
-Builds effective professional relationships between Clinical Supervisors, promoting collaboration and coverage as needed to ensure the continuous ability to provide service delivery to meet the needs of the communities served.
-Mentors subordinate BH team to ensure that offered group therapies are appropriate, useful, and discontinued when appropriate, and that new groups are developed as needed.
- Actively collaborates with BH leadership and staff for the resolution of conflicts to ensure staff are focused on responsibilities, patient requirements, and maintaining a productive work environment.
-Works collaboratively with psychiatric staff, ensuring all appropriate patients receive medication monitoring, psychiatric evaluations, and Primary Care Provider (PCP) involvement.
-Utilizes appropriate channels for reporting, discussing, and solving problems or concerns.
3. Community Engagement:
- Collaborate with community partners, stakeholders, and other healthcare providers to enhance access to behavioral health services in Southern Arizona.
- Participate in community outreach initiatives to raise awareness about mental health issues and available resources.
-Acts as a liaison for community and contracting agencies including attending meetings, completing information reports, or responding to other issues or needs.
4. Regulatory Compliance:
- Ensure compliance with all relevant laws, regulations, and accreditation standards governing behavioral health services.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation in accordance with HIPAA and other privacy regulations.
-Follows professional and ethical practices when working with patients, patient records, families, and community personnel.
-Maintains confidentiality of patient and family information.
-Observes applicable state and federal laws, assumes responsibility for knowledge of laws, and requests clarification if necessary.
5. Quality Improvement:
- Implement quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient outcomes and satisfaction.
- Collect and analyze data to identify trends, gaps in services, and areas for improvement.
- Works collaboratively with the Quality team to identify and address areas of improvement related to documentation in the clinical record.

-Uses appropriate incident reporting procedures when documenting unsafe or problematic incidents involving patients, patients, and staff.
-Completes internal and external Incident Reports accurately and follows procedures completely, ensuring the BHQ Team is actively involved.
6. Staff Development:
- Recruit, train, and mentor a multidisciplinary team of behavioral health professionals.
- Foster a culture of continuous learning and professional development among staff members.
-Participates in departmental meetings, patient staffing, case reviews, staff development, and policy and procedure development as appropriate.
-Responsible for timely completion of privileging process for all assigned clinical staff.
7. Budgeting and Financial Management:
- Develop and manage the behavioral health department budget, ensuring fiscal responsibility and efficient resource utilization.
- Identify opportunities for revenue generation and cost-saving measures.
8. Emergency Response and Crisis Management:
- Develop and implement crisis intervention protocols to address emergent mental health needs in the community.
- Coordinate with local agencies and emergency services to provide timely and effective crisis response.
-Attends to patient crises as requested, including assessing crisis and ensuring incidents are documented and appropriate action is taken.
-Provides appropriate referrals to other community agencies as required.
9. Advocacy and Policy Development:
- Advocate for policies that promote mental health awareness, parity, and access to care at the local, state, and national levels.
- Stay informed about legislative changes and trends in behavioral health to inform decision-making.
Requirements
Qualifications/Requirements
Master’s Degree in Social Service field
3 years’ experience supervising Behavioral Health staff
7 years’ progressive Behavioral Health experience
Licensed as an independent practitioner with the AZ Board of Behavioral Health Examiners (LPC, LCSW, LMFT, or LISAC)
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
First Aid certification (may be completed with MHC upon hire)
Fingerprint Clearance Card through the Arizona Department of Public Safety (or ability to obtain upon hire)
Current Arizona driver’s license with clean driving record and proof of current vehicle insurance (39-month MVR will be run by UCHC)
The following qualifications are preferred:
Experience with State Regional Behavioral Health Authority (RBHA) system, AHCCCS Complete Care (ACC) health plans, and community resources.
