Position Summary:
Responsible for assisting dentist(s) and hygienist(s) to set up, turndown rooms in preparation for patient care including chairside assisting. Responsible for cleaning and sterilizing dental instruments and stocking dental rooms with necessary supplies. Responsible for rooming patients and collecting necessary vitals and information prior to dental appointments including data entry in dental software. Responsible to participate as requested in RV clinic to help with patient escort to and from RV to Schools and participate as needed with community outreach and education.
Essential Functions
- Clean and disinfects treatment rooms following treatment, according to OSHA, and ADA standards.
- Set up treatment rooms with correct instruments, materials, and supplies for procedures planned.
- Assist Dentist and Hygienist chairside as needed.
- Set-up and clean x-ray equipment
- Helps with maintenance and record keeping of Steam autoclaves or disinfects all reusable instruments and equipment.
- Disposes of sharps and potentially contaminated trash correctly, in accordance with UCHC policy and OSHA standards.
- Maintains excellent communication between clinical staff and front office during the day to accomplish smooth operations.
- On RV performs regular duties, daily housekeeping, escorts patients to and from RV to ensure patient safety. Assists in inventory maintenance and storage, including materials, supplies, handouts, and any other needed items. This includes carrying small equipment, instruments, supplies, and materials to be prepared for portable dentistry.
- Data entry using dental software as needed.
Additional Duties & Responsibilities:
- Attends and participates in mandatory in-service, staff meetings, participates in voluntary in-service or outside training, and staff meetings as appropriated.
- Travel to clinics or schools as needed, assist in office as needed.
- Assists in orientation and training new staff members and/or students externs as needed.
- Participates in and complies with quality improvement initiatives and ongoing continuous improvement efforts as appropriate.

Requirements
Qualifications/Requirements
- Graduate of an accredited dental assisting program preferred.
- High school diploma or GED.
- Bilingual in Spanish strongly preferred.
Licensure/Certification
- Current CPR certification
- Valid Arizona driver’s license
Experience/Skills
- Knowledge of dental assisting terminology, techniques, procedures, instruments, materials, OSHA requirements, and instrument passing for all phases of general dentistry.
- Demonstrate knowledge, understanding, application, and adherence to organization and clinic policies.
- Excellent organization skills.
- Excellent customer service skills, especially with children of all ages and diverse population.
- Effective written and oral communication with patients, parents, school personal, and co-workers: fluent Spanish highly desirable.
- Strong degree of attention to details, ability to multitask, and prioritize assignments.
