What are the responsibilities and job description for the Parts Salesperson position at United Construction and Forestry?
Purpose:
This position is responsible for assisting customers by properly identifying needed items, using parts catalogs and computer system, billing merchandise orders, and making necessary entries for the inventory control systems, while distributing special order parts, receiving warranty parts and maintaining shelf stock.
Responsibilities:
- Works with parts team to make the department more profitable.
- Reads catalogs, John Deere Vision or computer for replacement part stock number and price.
- Orders and receives parts from John Deere and other vendors.
- Fills customer orders from stock, tracks lost sales, receives and ships parts as needed in accordance with DOT guidelines.
- Ensures technicians receive the correct parts in a timely manner.
- Studies and stays current on new product bulletins and catalogs.
- Prepares computerized invoices, receives payments.
- Picks up and delivers parts for customers and vendors as needed.
- Maintains periodical parts returns as needed, assists with annual physical inventory.
- Attends training classes and store meetings.
- Examines returned parts to determine if defective and exchange part or refund money.
- Notifies Parts Manager of discrepancies between inventory records and shelf quantities.
- Always see that defective merchandise is tagged properly with date, hours used, serial number, model number, correct part number, and placed in warranty bins.
- Maintains a clean and safe operating department.
- Controls expenses to increase profitability.
- Returns all unsold merchandise immediately to the correct stock location
Experience, Education, Skills and Knowledge:
- Two years related experience and/or training preferred; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Organization and communication skills must be highly developed. Computer skills need to be broad based
- Ability to use standard desktop load applications such as Microsoft Office and internet based functions
- Ability to write and speak effectively to individuals and groups
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical procedures. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
- Familiar with John Deere and competitive products preferred.
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of situations. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
- This person must possess a valid driver’s license.
- Excellent customer service skills
- High School Diploma or equivalent experience

To combat these potential dangers and risk hazards, Parts Salespersons must follow strict safety procedures, proper equipment and warehouse safety, and PPE.
