The position is responsible for the development and implementation of Cooperative’s communications program including, but not limited to, ad campaigns, newsletters, brochures, pamphlets, social media and website development. This position helps plan, coordinate the preparation of material for publication, reviews and evaluates publication material, conducts member and general public education programs, writes articles and editorials, and utilizes various social media vehicles that drive broader awareness of the Cooperative’s mission and goals.
Major Responsibilities
Job Knowledge, Training and Experience: Bachelor’s Degree in communications, journalism or similar discipline.
Equipment Operated: Must be able to operate personal computers, cameras, audio/video equipment and related software such as Adobe Creative Suite, InDesign, Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator. Must be able to use office equipment. Must have a current Texas driver’s license without violations that would prohibit insurability.
Abilities and Skills: Exceptional written and oral communications skills. Strong interpersonal skills and experience collaborating with multi-disciplinary teams. Working understanding of layout, type, composition, prepress preparation, and color with sense of design trends and art form. Ability to be flexible between competing priorities while keeping overall objectives in mind.
Physical Effort: Must be able to perform all activities listed in the job description with or without reasonable accommodation.
Working Conditions: Requires working indoors and outdoors with some irregular hours. Some travel is required inside and outside the cooperative service area.

Major Responsibilities
- Identify opportunities to enhance the communication with and education of members and employees through all media. Collaborate and develop content for other cooperative-owned channels such as the website, employee newsletter and member magazine.
- Monitor, participate and report on industry-related initiatives across multiple channels.
- Assist in expanding the cooperative’s presence and engagement on social media platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and other similar community sites in accordance with the cooperative brand and identity standards.
- Perform graphic design/layout duties for multiple communications materials, including newsletters, magazines, brochures, etc.
- Assists with execution of a social media editorial calendar and posting schedule with input from communications team members and internal stakeholders.
- Identify, interpret, and capitalize on existing or new social media trends, tools, and applications. Provide training to the communications team and/or cooperative as needed.
- Perform audio/visual duties, including videography and video editing, photography, etc.
- Assists communications team with community meetings or events.
- Assist in market research analysis, including readership and member satisfaction surveys.
- Participate in regular departmental meetings and check-ins.
- Pitch and research story ideas.
- Secure and conduct interviews over the phone and Zoom.
- Secure permissions for video and photos and gather assets for projects.
- Complete other daily tasks as required by the digital team.
- Help develop and execute communications & marketing strategy.
- Help Develop and maintain a positive public image for the organization through public facing communication across all platforms: website, social media, print, radio, etc.
- Write, edit and/or distribute public-facing communications, which may include press releases, articles, and ad copy.
- Assist with development of communication campaigns that ensure consistency with the organization’s public relations strategy and marketing goals.
- Advise leadership on “best practice” as it applies to communications, marketing, and public relations.
- Support for member facing events and sponsorship activities as needed.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Adhere to and encourage current safety policies and procedures and be actively involved in continuously assessing safety policies to ensure their content and/or effectiveness are consistently the top priority at the cooperative.
