United Cooperative Services is seeking an Engineering Intern for Summer 2025 for the Burleson Cooperative Planning and Procurement Department. The wage for this position is $20.00 an hour.

This intern position assists the Electrical Engineers with various tasks and duties involving, but not limited to, protective device coordination, studies, commissioning tests with SCADA, and data collection and verification. The intern position provides a hands-on learning experience directly related to responsibilities of an electrical engineer at an electric distribution cooperative.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS
Primary:  Planning Engineering Manager
Secondary: Operations Engineering Manager

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Review and check spreadsheet calculations and formatting for studies.
  • Verify newly installed recloser functions through SCADA by running SCADA tests in the office in conjunction with technicians in the field.
  • Conduct data collection/verification through spreadsheets and database maintenance for reclosers, line losses, fault locations, power bill data and other files as assigned.  Intern will learn how to analyze the data.
  • Perform and document studies establishing the coordinated operation of protective devices and make recommendations of any necessary settings changes.
  • Adhere to and encourage United’s safety policies and procedures and offer recommendations to your supervisor to enhance the cooperative’s safety culture.

The Electrical Engineer Intern shall be required to perform any other duties assigned to fulfill the objectives of the Cooperative.

Consumers-Members:  May occasionally interact with cooperative members .

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

Job Knowledge, Training and Experience:  Intern will be in active process of obtaining a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or related field from an accredited university.  Prefer intern to have an active role in the college engineering program. 

Equipment Operated: Must also have a current Texas driver's license without violations that would prohibit insurability.

Abilities and Skills: Requires written communication in the form of reports and correspondence.  Requires ability to be accurate and handle details and meet occasional deadlines under pressure.  Requires ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry, as well as trigonometry.  Must be able to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions, and carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.  Must have ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Physical Effort: Must be able to carry out a variety of activities which require a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.  Occasionally requires ability to reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.  Must be able to frequently lift or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.  Requires specific vision abilities that include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and ability to adjust focus.

Working Conditions: Work is performed in an office environment with occasional outdoor field site visits.
