Position Summary
As a Sales Trainee at United Electric, you will embark on a hands-on journey designed to prepare you for a successful career as an Outside Sales Representative. This comprehensive program includes rotations through key departments, such as warehouse, counter sales, inside sales, and product groups, providing you with a well-rounded understanding of our operations and customer needs. Throughout your experience, you will develop essential sales skills, gain valuable product knowledge, and build the confidence necessary to thrive in Outside Sales.
Sales Trainee Program Summary
Each rotation will be a hands-on experience to understand how to enter a sale all the way through getting it packed, delivered, and invoiced correctly to our customers. Each rotation will expose the trainee to different situational experiences requiring problem solving and dedication to serving our customers and fellow employees. Along the way, our Sales Trainees engage in training classes, webinars and on-the-job training designed to accelerate his or her understanding of how to better serve our customers. Roadmap Rotations Include:
- Warehouse ~ 6 Weeks
- Counter ~ 6 Months
- Product Groups (Gear/Lighting/Pipe/Wire) ~3-6 Months
- Inside Sales~ 3 months
- Shadowing Outside Sales ~3 Months
Throughout this rotating position you will:
- Learn and effectively communicate United’s value proposition to our customers
- Develop relationships with vendors leverage for future sales calls.
- Participates in self-paced web-based trainings for sales and product training, including two 6 month NAED EPEC modules to build foundation of electrical distribution.
- Work closely with internal departments, combining individual efforts to better serve the customer.
Location:
Flexibility with locations to maximize the roadmap. May need to be in locations with a counter and product groups during rotations. Supporting other locations for coverage as needed.
Position responsibilities as an Outside Sales / Account Representative
- Develop and maintain principal level relationships with assigned customers in a specific region while offering the customer unique perspectives.
- Build upon relationships through customer entertainment and industry events.
- Consistently articulate the unique United Electric value proposition to customers with a focus on their purchasing values (Cost, Advantage, Risk, Easier).
- Connect customers with all the resources available (Support Services, OnPoint Automation, Client Services, Product Groups).
- Proactively support the company with all marketing, new products, training, and cost-saving programs.
- Subscribe to the Outside Sales Professional Program and document activities through the Customer Value Program.
- Develop relationships with our manufacturers and engage them in our customers’ business.
- Provide exceptional customer service, responding to all customer issues or problems in a timely and effective manner.
- Assist credit and accounts payable to resolve disputed issues.
- Proactively assist Project Teams with job bids and any job-related problems throughout the entire process.
- Collaborate regularly with Inside Sales on all aspects of account management and assist when needed.
- Establish appropriate pricing levels utilizing the pricing/analytics department.
- Proactively follow up on all quotes with primary responsibility to closes orders.
- Provide sales forecasts and updates as required.
- Regularly attend sales and communications meetings as required.
- Adhere to United Electric’s expense policies.
- Performs other duties as obvious or assigned.
This is a Safety Sensitive Position
- May be required to operate powered industrial trucks.
- Must be able to lift 50 lbs. several times a day, bend, twist, and climb.
- Adhere to all United Electric health, safety, and environmental policies.

- Complete an accident/Incident report for any safety and/or health infractions that occur or witnessed.

Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in related field preferred.
- A high degree of interpersonal understanding.
- Experience in effective conflict resolution.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
- Self-Motivated.
