Job Description
Teacher Assistant
PURPOSE/STATEMENT: Under direct supervision of the Lead Teacher. The job of the Teacher Assistant is to assist in providing learning experiences for students 0 to 5 years of age, in areas of cognition, receptive and expressive language, fine, and gross motor, and self help skills. Assist in collecting evidence of children’s progress by writing anecdotal notes, children’s work, and photographs.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Teacher Assistant must;
o Work closely with Lead Teacher completing observations to evaluate students in the areas of cognition, social-emotional, receptive, and expressive language, fine and gross motor, and self-help skills. o Work closely with Lead Teacher to comply with Dept. of Ed. Early Education and SupportDivision standards: Contract Monitor Review, CACFP-Nutrition Program, andEnvironmental Rating Scale (ECERS/ITERS) o Collaborate with Lead Teacher for the assessment of children with special needs o Assist in implementing weekly lesson plan o Develop and maintain a safe and pleasant environment for children. o Ensure daily hygiene needs of children are met o Collaborate with other classroom teachers, assistant teachers, and other personnel o Assist in maintaining cleanliness and organization of children’s areas such as bathrooms, classroom environment, playground, and kitchen when needed. o Administer basic first aid when needed. o Ability to create and maintain a safe learning environment for children and others o Demonstrate effective oral and written communication skills (English & Spanish). o Must be sensitive to the needs of culturally and ethnically diverse groups o Yearly complete 21 hrs. of professional growth hours or attend school (Associate Permit holders must attend school) o Perform other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must have:
- A minimum of 6 child development units and currently enrolled in an accredited college or university to obtain additional child development units (ROP certificate accepted but must be enrolled in an accredited college or university) to obtain permit.
- Bilingual, English/Spanish (speak, read & write). o Valid California Driver’s License o Proof of Insurance o Health Card /TB test clearance o CPR, First Aid certificate o Fingerprint Clearance o Pass drug test
- Desirable qualifications:
- Child Development Teacher Assistant permit or higher issued by California Commission on
Teacher Credentialing.
