United Family & Children's Society Job Description - Mental Health Associate
Qualifications:
Qualifications required by the Society shall minimally include a high school diploma or its equivalent with a preference for a college degree in a mental health related filed such as social work, psychology or similar field of study. The Mental Health Associate will be a mature person, capable of providing a supportive relationship and encouragement to individuals with a history of emotional problems or behavioral difficulties. Having and maintaining a good driving record is required for continued employment.
Responsibilities:
The Mental Health Associate is assigned to a specific group of clients or to an individual client with a goal of assisting the Clinician or Coordinator or Clinical Supervisor in a specific program activity. This may include setting up, organizing, conducting or clean-up of a group activity or recreational group and offering one-to-one supportive counseling or anger management education, as needed.
Additionally, the Mental Health Associate will:
- Work directly with Clinicians and/or the Coordinator to implement the day's activities (such as the Community Support Project)
- Assist in the social or recreational activities and groups for clients
- Participate in the client treatment or service planning meetings with staff Participate in team meetings
- Work with clients toward improving their level of functioning and behavior by using the agreed upon behavior modification techniques
- Maintain reports, as requested by the Coordinator or Clinical Supervisor
- Attend required staff meetings and inservice programs
- Assisting with client billing and other reports, as assigned
- Driving an agency vehicle to transport clients, if assigned
- Maintaining a valid NJ driver's license and a good driving record are required for continued employment
- Fulfill all duties as listed in the current CSP contract with the NJ Division of Mental Health Services, if assigned to CSP
- Performing other duties as assigned by the Clinical Supervisor or Coordinator
The Mental Health Associate is a non-exempt position and reports to the Coordinator or Clinical Supervisor.
