Successful candidates will assist with coordinating the day-to-day activities related to the grain handling operations of a grain elevator. Ideally, candidates will have maintenance experience and a mechanical aptitude with demonstrated capabilities to provide delegation and oversight.

JOB SUMMARY
The Grain Elevator Assistant Manager (EAM) I will assist with the coordination of the day-to-day activities related to grain handling operations of a grain elevator. The EAM I will be exposed to all facets of the operations of the Elevator and will assist the Manager in supervising the Elevator employees. Under limited supervision, the EAM I is responsible for keeping high-quality products available at the Elevators, and any other pile locations, or satellite facilities. Employees in this position will be required to maintain a positive, forthright attitude that promotes a collaborative, respectful, and diverse corporate culture, and conduct themselves in a professional and favorable manner.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Performs job duties in a safe manner in compliance with safety programs and procedures.
- Maintains work areas and facilities properly.
- Provides courteous and responsive customer service to all who enter the Elevator.
- Demonstrates teamwork and promotes genuine respect for others.
- Delegates and provides oversight to crew in coordination with Elevator Manager.
- May conduct regular safety meetings and assist in the assurance that all safety processes and regulations are followed and in compliance.
- Assists with the grain merchandising for designated location and reporting and collaborating with the Merchandising team.
- Receives commodities and checks quality of the product to ensure standards are met.
- Stores existing commodities properly and exercises inventory control, taking into account possible breakdowns in the logistics chain.
- Observes and listens to machinery operation to detect equipment malfunctions and leads necessary repairs. Responsible for ensuring preventative maintenance plans are followed.
- Recommends measures to improve production methods, equipment performance, and safety.
- Ensures production records are accurate and maintained properly.
- Other duties as identified and assigned.
Qualifications
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or GED degree and/or equivalent training required. Four-year degree is preferred. Combination of previous leadership experience in a related field/industry will be considered.
- 2 -4 years of experience managing elevator equipment and elevator operations is preferred.
- Must have a valid driver’s license to drive company vehicles.
- Experience supervising and providing leadership to team members preferred.
- Maintenance experience with mechanical aptitude is preferred.
- Working knowledge of technical computer programs such as MS Suite and grain software such as Agris and One Weigh.
- Proven interpersonal skills; must support a team-oriented approach within the immediate facility as well as on behalf of United Grain Corporation.
- Requires the ability to read, write, and comprehend written and oral operational and safety instructions and related rules, policies, and memos.
- Must be able to make decisions, work independently and be detail oriented.
- Ability to communicate clearly and work effectively with coworkers, supervisors, Producers and Merchandising staff daily.
- Expressing or exchanging ideas in English by means of the spoken word to impart oral information to customers, public, and convey detailed spoken instructions to other workers accurately, loudly, or quickly.
- Must be able to work extended hours as needed.
- An elevator’s volume and location may be taken into consideration when determining the level of position needed at a particular location.
Physical Demands and Requirements
- This position can be physically strenuous and includes both indoor and outdoor work. From time to time, there will be exposure to grain dust along with work in all types of weather/temperatures. Must be able to work in this environment.
- You will be expected to be able to work in tight and confined spaces, walk, climb, bend, kneel, lift, grip, grasp, push, and pull various tools and equipment. May be required to ride a belt lift and occasionally work at significant heights with requisite balance and equilibrium. Ability to frequently lift, push, pull up to 50 pounds and occasionally more. This job will require the ability to ascend/descend ladders.
- Personal protective equipment, including hardhats, gloves, safety glasses, safety shoes, and respiratory protection and ear protection are required.
- Must have vision that permits close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus. When grading grain, the ability to identify and distinguish colors is also important.
- Ability to detect odors and the ability to understand and discern safety warning systems.
- Flexible with work hours - must be prepared to receive phone calls and respond to company-related needs at irregular times.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms.
