We are seeking an enthusiastic and detail-oriented Assistant Transportation & Facilities Specialist to support the management of transportation and facilities across Utah, Nevada, and Montana. Under the direction of the Transportation & Facilities Manager, this role ensures that transportation and facility operations meet agency, state, and federal standards—prioritizing safety, compliance, and operational excellence in alignment with Head Start guidelines.
In This Role, You Will
Support Safety and Compliance:
- Collaborate with the Transportation & Facilities Manager to implement and oversee safety and maintenance protocols for transportation and facilities.
- Ensure compliance with the Head Start Act, state licensing, and federal regulations, promoting national best practices.
- Develop and enforce safety standards by conducting spot inspections and unloading audits for buses, drivers, and aides.
- Assist with routine and surprise inspections to maintain compliance with safety and operational standards.
- Conduct site visits across Utah, Nevada, and Montana to observe, monitor, and assess facility and transportation operations.
- Provide detailed reports and recommendations to the Transportation & Facilities Manager based on observations.
- Use self-assessments, federal reviews, inspections, and research data to support continuous improvement in transportation and facilities management.
- Monitor and approve transportation routes using Traversa or other software to best meet the needs of families while adhering to agency and federal standards.
- Ensure all bus drivers maintain required certifications, adhere to policies, and receive ongoing training.
- Provide support for driver and bus aide training sessions.
- Assist in locating new facilities, supporting major construction projects, and overseeing property improvements.
- Ensure compliance with federal contracting laws on projects and property management tasks.
- Collaborate with vendors, drivers, and staff to cultivate a culture focused on safety and quality service.
- Maintain emergency response plans for all centers.
- Keep up-to-date CDL driver records and maintain a valid Class B CDL with Passenger (P) and School Bus (S) endorsements to assist with training and substitute driving as needed.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
The ideal candidate will have:
- Education: High School diploma required; some college coursework highly preferred.
- Experience: Previous experience in transportation or facilities management preferred; familiarity with federal guidelines is a plus.
- Certifications: Class B CDL with school bus, passenger, and air brake endorsements required.
- Ability to sit or stand for extended periods.
- Ability to lift up to 75 lbs.
- Ability to perform actions related to building and vehicle maintenance (stooping, bending, climbing).
