Triage : The ER nurse conducts triage to quickly assess the severity of each patient’s condition. They assign priority levels to determine who needs immediate care and who can wait. Vital Signs Monitoring : The nurse measures and monitors vital signs such as blood pressure, heart rate, respiratory rate, temperature, and oxygen saturation. Changes in vital signs can indicate a worsening condition that needs urgent intervention. Medications and Treatments : ER nurses administer medications (such as pain relief, antibiotics, anticoagulants, and antiarrhythmics) and IV fluids based on the patient's condition and physician orders. Wound Care : Nurses assist in cleaning, dressing, and suturing wounds, as well as providing first aid for burns, fractures, and cuts. Chest Pain Protocol : For patients presenting with chest pain, the nurse follows established protocols, including administering aspirin, blood thinners, and performing electrocardiograms (ECGs). Emergency Procedures : The ER RN assists with or performs emergency procedures like airway management (e.g., intubation), CPR, defibrillation, and stabilization of trauma patients.
