Job Summary
The Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) Technician/Specialist supports the implementation and continuous improvement of UIG’s safety, health, and environmental programs. This role focuses on promoting a strong safety culture, ensuring regulatory compliance, and helping to maintain a safe and healthy work environment for all site personnel.
General Expectations & Responsibilities:

Conduct routine inspections of project sites to identify and mitigate potential safety, health, and environmental risks.

Develop, implement, and update HSE policies, procedures, and site-specific safety plans.

Create and maintain inspection schedules and conduct audits using tools like iAuditor and OSRs, including tracking corrective actions.

Facilitate and deliver safety training, toolbox talks, and emergency preparedness sessions.

Monitor day-to-day site activities to ensure compliance with safety protocols and regulatory standards.

Maintain electronic Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and ensure accessibility.

Track and document employee exposure to hazardous substances or discharge events as required by law.

Coach and mentor employees and subcontractors on site safety best practices and expectations.

Participate in job hazard analyses and recommend appropriate controls.

Stay current with industry trends and pursue professional development opportunities.

Perform additional duties as assigned to support overall project safety.
Required Skills & Abilities:

Working knowledge of OSHA, EPA, DOT, and other regulatory compliance standards

Strong analytical, investigative, and problem-solving skills

Effective verbal and written communication skills

Detail-oriented with strong organizational and time management capabilities

Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and safety-related software

Familiarity with field inspection tools, safety databases, and heavy civil construction practices

Self-starter with the ability to work independently or as part of a team

Comfortable with daily and occasional overnight travel

Legally eligible to work in the United States
Education & Experience:
-
Bachelor’s degree in occupational safety and health, Environmental Science, or related field (preferred)
-
1–3 years of experience in a safety, environmental, or construction-related HSE role (preferred)
Physical Requirements:

Ability to perform physical job site inspections, including lifting up to 30 lbs and navigating uneven terrain

Capable of working in both field and office environments

Comfortable with prolonged periods of standing, walking, or sitting at a computer
