Role Overview: Roadway Field Engineer
As a Roadway Field Engineer with UIG, you will support the execution of roadway construction projects by coordinating daily operations, managing field documentation, assisting with planning and scheduling, and ensuring compliance with design specifications and safety standards. You’ll play a key role in maintaining project timelines, controlling costs, and supporting both the engineering and construction teams.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Meet daily with field crews to review production goals and ensure all materials, equipment, and resources are in place.
- Review and analyze shop drawings, material requirements, and project data for quality and compliance.
- Provide technical input for work planning and scheduling while identifying potential risks to cost or timeline.
- Track and evaluate daily production and budget data; submit accurate project quantity updates using assigned cost codes.
- Document project progress using company-approved systems and technology.
- Notify the project team of major schedule shifts and assist in identifying resolutions.
- Manage labor, material, equipment, and subcontractor cost coding in coordination with the accounting team.
- Review and approve daily timecards; assist with resolving discrepancies in payroll and reporting.
- Coordinate layout planning, ensuring all utility and commercial lines are marked and necessary permits are in place.
- Conduct Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs); promote safety awareness through active participation in safety meetings.
- Assist with subcontractor coordination, including scheduling and crew logistics.
- Provide technical support for estimating, scheduling, and design development efforts.
- Participate in job closeout, verifying completion of punch list items and reconciling documentation with project stakeholders.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field required
- 1 year of experience in construction engineering preferred
- Basic knowledge of construction practices, drawings, and specifications
- Familiarity with scheduling software and production tracking systems
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Detail-oriented, proactive, and highly motivated team player
- Valid Driver’s License and willingness to travel to job sites
REQUIREMENTS:
- All applicants must be:
- 18 years of age or older
- Able to pass a drug test
- Legally eligible to work in the U.S.
- Have reliable transportation to and from job sites (driver's license preferred)
- Willing to travel for multi-state project assignments
- Must provide own hand tools (excluding power tools)
