United Mechanical is seeking a Controls Technician to join our team in Fort Myers, FL! If you have a passion for energy management systems and enjoy leading and mentoring a team, we want to hear from you.
The Controls Technician will be responsible for installing, troubleshooting, and assisting in the commissioning of Energy Management Systems in commercial environments. This role involves supervising and teaching Field Apprentices and Field Technician I & II team members.
What you’ll do:
- Interpret and understand construction MEP drawings, control drawings, and electrical line diagrams.
- Run low voltage and network wiring for new construction and retrofit projects.
- Wire and troubleshoot mechanical and HVAC equipment, including chillers, generators, and AHUs.
- Communicate with manufacturers as needed to ensure proper system functionality.
- Commission control systems in collaboration with Application Engineers.
- Troubleshoot control systems, high-voltage issues, and lighting control.
- Install, program, and troubleshoot variable speed drives.
- Manage multiple job sites, including overseeing subcontractors.
- Log into installed systems via web browser or RC-Studio and troubleshoot networking issues.
- Maintain job site safety standards and ensure compliance with NEC and company protocols.
- Provide clear communication to clients, project managers, and team members regarding job status and expectations.
What you’ll bring to the team:
- Strong working knowledge of BAS control components (AI, UI, DO, DI, Relays, Triacs, etc.).
- Deep understanding of NEC (National Electric Code) regulations.
- Familiarity with mechanical systems sequences and refrigerant cycle principles.
- Ability to set up and troubleshoot routers and networking issues.
- Experience in retrofitting complex control panels while maintaining system functionality.
- Ability to oversee apprentices and technicians while executing high-quality work.
- Basic PC skills and ability to operate software tools related to control systems.
Requirements:
- Must provide basic hand tools and understand their proper use.
- Must be able to pass a background check.
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
