What are the responsibilities and job description for the URS Clinical Support Specialist - Full Time position at United Medical Systems?
Essential Responsibilities/Duties/Functions/Tasks:
- Perform procedures in accordance with all Laser protocols.
- Transports and sets up ureteroscopy/laser equipment in OR prior to procedure.
- Assists Urologist in performing ureteroscopy and laser procedures.
- Report to facility no later than 60 minutes prior to the start of the procedure.
- Submit complete and legible treatment/billing logs according to UMS’ HIPAA policies and procedures.
- Reviews and maintains inventory of supplies and cystoscopy equipment (when assigned for coverage).
- Responsible for contacting facilities to confirm schedule, number of patient procedures and start times (when assigned for coverage).
- Responsible for having after-hours contact at each facility in case of equipment failure or emergency. It is the C.S.S. responsibility to contact the facility in case of potential cancellation and work with the Laser Supervisor to try to accommodate the patient procedures.
- Maintains and builds relationships with physician partners, facility representatives and suppliers.
- Responsible for ensuring URS Techs. are maintaining Policies & Procedure Manuals, which includes adding updates and reviewing each manual prior to any inspection.
- Responsible for ensuring the URS Techs. upkeep of the equipment and supplies to perform procedures in an efficient and aesthetic manner. They will prepare the equipment for transport, including but not limited to, cleaning/disinfecting the equipment, putting supplies away, etc.
- Assist in and ensure proper notification of their direct supervisor and UMS Laser Service of any malfunctioning equipment.
- Clinical Support Specialists will wear a company name badge at all times, when on the premises of a facility.
- Clinical Support Specialists will only assist in procedures under the direct supervision of a urologist.
- Comply with all instructions from the urologist and/or anesthesiologist directly involved with the laser procedure.
- Attendance and participation in various local and national medical meetings/conventions/training programs upon request of manager.
- Submission of weekly expense reports and patient treatments sheets.
- Assist with In-Servicing of SPD and OR staff, ensuring UMS and partnership owned equipment is getting the best utilization as possible.
- Assist with training of new URS staff.
- Assist in implementation of new URS accounts.
- Assist in coordinating schedules and coverage of URS Techs (PTO, coverage of sick days, and emergent call coverage).
- To ensure coverage of vacated positions to limit loss of cases or interruption of service.
Qualifications:
- Certified Scrub Tech or Certified Surgical Technologist or Certified Laser Technologist or background in OR, sterile processing or similar preferred.
- Minimum 1 year experience working as a URS Tech.
- Current BLS/CPR required.
- Urology experience required.
- Prior experience with Holmium/Thulium Laser utilization for Urology procedures a must.
- Knowledge of sterilization protocols required. Certification by Richard Wolf and or other suppliers will be obtained within 3 months of accepting the role.
- Good written and oral communication skills required.
