Status: Full – Time, 40 hours per week

Location | Department: Affordable Housing | Environmental Services

Travel Requirements: Position is responsible for units in the greater Grand Rapids Area, travel required. 

 

What you’ll do

The Maintenance Technician is responsible for conducting both interior and exterior tasks related to repairing, maintaining, cleaning, and renovating buildings and rooms. This position will travel to various communities and oversee maintenance to ensure they are kept safe and comfortable.


Community Maintenance

  • Performs interior and exterior repair, general maintenance, and remodeling of buildings and rooms. 
  • Completes cleaning tasks, inspection, and final walk through of turned-over and renovated rooms to ensure they are clean and completely ready for move-ins. 
  • Complete preventive maintenance tasks to ensure equipment and systems are operating efficiently.
  • Conduct routine inspections of community building, equipment, and grounds to identify maintenance needs. 

Documentation & Compliance

  • Keep accurate records of maintenance activities, including repairs and inspections.
  • Maintain inventory of supplies and equipment needed for maintenance tasks.
  • Tracks expenses related to the care of the building and grounds.
  • Manage and maintain an accurate inventory tag system for all equipment, furniture and other community owned property.
  • Participates in inspections by authorized government agencies, this includes the Health Department and Housing and Urban Development (HUD).
  • Provides education to team members and residents on Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) and ensures that building is in compliance with requirements.
  • Attend events, educational seminars, and Fair Housing Compliance meetings.

What it takes

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum of three (5) years’ experience in maintenance/environmental service-related field. 
  • Knowledgeable of various mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems as well as building codes and safety regulations.
  • Proactively stay abreast of emerging methods and principles, integrating them effectively into current maintenance procedures.
  • Plan, manage, and execute programs encompassing repair, new construction, and equipment installation.
  • Must possess a valid and unrestricted State of Michigan driver’s license.
  • Position requires travel to various communities and being available for on-call duties. 
  • Position requires the ability to lift and move objects weighting up to 35 pounds without assistance
