What are the responsibilities and job description for the Maintenance Worker, Monday - Friday position at United Methodist Retirement Communities?
Schedule: Full Time | 40 hours per week
Hours: M - F | 10am -6pm
Location: Huron Valley PACE | Ypsilanti, MI
What You’ll do:
The Facilities Maintenance Worker is responsible for daily maintenance activities to keep the facility clean, safe, and comfortable. This role supports a positive environment for residents, staff, and visitors, with a focus on strong customer service and professionalism.
General Maintenance and Housekeeping
- Follow work schedules and complete tasks as directed by supervisors.
- Keep work areas clean and safe, following infection control and universal precautions.
- Perform routine cleaning (bathrooms, furniture, windows, floors, carpets, walls, ceilings, and elevators).
- Dispose of refuse daily and maintain a clean facility.
Safety and Compliance
- Follow safety protocols for equipment use and task performance.
- Report hazardous conditions or faulty equipment promptly.
- Adhere to fire, tornado, and emergency procedures, including evacuations.
- Properly use and dispose of personal protective equipment (PPE).
Facility and Grounds Maintenance
- Perform routine maintenance on plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and mechanical systems.
- Maintain facility grounds, including mowing, trimming, snow removal, and salting.
- Conduct safety checks on door locks, water temperatures, and other systems.
- Service heating and cooling units per guidelines.
Equipment and Supplies Management
- Clean and maintain fixtures, furnishings, and HVAC units.
- Delivery and stock supplies; replace light bulbs as needed.
Emergency and Unscheduled Tasks
- Respond to and perform emergency cleaning or maintenance tasks as instructed.
- Handle unscheduled maintenance assignments and special tasks as needed in the facility and community (ie. participants' homes).
Quality and Time Management
- Complete housekeeping tasks efficiently using time management techniques.
- Keep work areas hazard-free to ensure safety.
- Perform any additional duties to maintain a clean, safe, and comfortable environment.
What It Takes:
- High School Diploma or GED (Trade School Certificate in facility maintenance is a plus)
- Experience with HVAC, electrical, and plumbing systems
- Ability to perform minor repairs and routine maintenance
- Capable of lifting up to 50 pounds
- Previous facilities maintenance experience in healthcare or residential settings, preferred
- Certification or formal training in HVAC, electrical, plumbing, or related fields, preferred
- Knowledge of safety codes and maintenance regulations, preferred
