This is a full-time position located in Scranton, PA.

Position Summary:

The Child Care Center Director will oversee the day-to-day operations of the child care center and provide strategic leadership to a team of 10-13 staff members, including an Assistant Director who brings expertise in child care operations and program development. The Director will focus on team management, operational oversight, and compliance with regulations while fostering a collaborative work environment. A minimum of three years of experience managing a team is required, but prior child care experience is not necessary. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a strong ability to lead, a willingness to learn, and a commitment to ensuring a safe and engaging environment for children and staff.

Responsibilities:

  • Key Responsibilities:Team Management
    • Provide strong, hands-on leadership, ensuring clear delegation and accountability.
    • Conduct regular performance evaluations and observations; offer coaching and professional development.
    • Lead staff meetings with a focus on communication, teamwork, operational updates, and professional development.
    • Work closely with the Assistant Director to address day-to-day challenges and ensure alignment with program goals.

    Operational Oversight

    • Manage administrative tasks, including finances, scheduling, and coordination with transportation and other service providers.
    • Ensure compliance with all regulations and quality standards.
    • Maintain the physical safety of the facility and ensure the availability of adequate supplies and equipment.

    Collaboration and Compliance

    • Partner with Assistant Director to support program planning and implementation.
    • Monitor compliance with all applicable regulations and policies, ensuring accountability across the team.
    • Demonstrate a commitment to learning about child care regulations, food program regulations, and program standards.
    • Serve as a collaborative team member within the agency and the Department of Children & Teens.

    Parent and Community Engagement

    • Communicate effectively with parents to address concerns and share updates on their child’s experience.
    • Represent the center in the community, fostering positive relationships and partnerships.

PA Code 3270:
(a) A director is responsible for the general management of the facility, including the following minimum duties:

  • Administering finances, personnel, maintenance, meal planning and preparation, and transportation.
  • Administering the facility’s program objectives and activities.
  • Designating a staff person responsible for compliance with this chapter in the Director’s absence.
  • Coordinating and planning daily activities with the group supervisors or with the assistant group supervisors in school-age programs.
  • Overall program planning.
  • Written evaluation of staff persons on a regular basis, a minimum of one evaluation every 12 months.

Education/Experience/Licensure:

  • Bachelors degree is required.
  • A minimum of three years of experience managing a team, preferably in an environment with diverse responsibilities.
  • Valid driver’s license is required with clean driving record.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and develop staff in a collaborative, results-oriented setting while maintaining a safe, inclusive, and positive environment for staff and families
