The agency’s purpose is to meet the needs of local low-income families, seniors, youth, and new immigrants, while also empowering them to attain self-sufficiency. UNC’s wide array of programs are continuously adjusted to fill the gaps that exist in local services.

UNC services include child care centers with transportation, pre-school programs, youth programs, older adult programs, community health education, free screenings, community services, community education (free adult literacy, English as a Second Language, and citizenship classes), community revitalization, and community development (affordable housing).

Hours: Full time, 40 hours per week, including two evening shifts (12-8pm)

Position Summary:

Reporting to the Director of Community Education, the Behavioral Health Provider is an essential member of the team whose primary responsibility is to assist members of the community, with a focus on immigrant and refugee populations. The role involves providing resource navigation, social and emotional support, advocacy, education, prevention and intervention services to promote behavioral health and wellness. Additionally, the provider delivers outpatient clinical counseling in both individual and group settings.

Responsibilities include:

  • Develop and facilitate workshops focused on a variety of behavioral health topics. Workshops may be psychoeducational, therapeutic, or both.
  • Conduct focus groups with target population to determine gaps in service and relevant topics of interest to be offered in an educational or therapeutic group setting.
  • Participate in marketing, outreach, and engagement efforts to promote programs and services.
  • Respond to community referrals pertaining to behavioral health support and care coordination.
  • Deliver clinical outpatient counseling services and carry out counseling processes including the following responsibilities:
    • Assess for insurance coverage and refer to appropriate resources for assistance, if applicable.
    • Complete biopsychosocial initial intake.
    • Develop individualized and collaborative treatment plans, to be reviewed every 90 days.
    • Utilize evidence based therapeutic techniques, theories, and interventions to enhance individualized well-being and course of treatment.
    • Document all outreach attempts, clinical case notes, treatment plans, diagnoses, appointment times, and follow up efforts in Client Track, in accordance with HIPAA guidelines, insurance requirements, and instructions from Department Director and Clinical Supervisor.
  • Explore appropriate community resources and complete follow up to ensure attainment of needed services.
  • Collaborate with other health and social service professionals to coordinate care and enhance health and well-being of consumers. This may also include collaboration across UNC departments to ensure efficient service delivery.
  • Assist with mental and behavioral health crisis intervention and safety assessment as needed.
  • Provide telephonic and in-person outreach for “wellness checks,” as needed.
  • Complete thorough and accurate documentation in accordance with department/program specific procedures, as instructed by Department Director.
  • Assist in report writing, data collection, and preparation needed for grants, as requested by Department Director.
  • Participate in appropriate trainings to grow professional skillset and expertise as it relates to serving UNC consumers.
  • Represent UNC at community events and meetings as needed.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.

Special Knowledge/Skills:

  • Experience working with culturally diverse populations
  • Work on-site in an office environment with moderate noise
  • Ability to be flexible and adapt to meet the needs of program participants
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Be able to lift up to 10 pounds
  • Be able to access and navigate the location’s facilities and help others do so when needed
  • Be prepared to regularly stand, sit, talk, hear, reach, stoop, kneel and use hands and fingers to operate a computer, telephone, and keyboard while performing the duties of this job
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision requirements to complete computer work

Education/Experience/Licensure:

  • Master’s degree in Social Work, Counseling, or a related field.
  • Active licensure or working toward licensure through the Board of Social Workers, Marriage and Family Therapists, and Professional Counselors.
  • Clinical supervision will be provided by a licensed clinician separate from the Department Director.
