What are the responsibilities and job description for the Engineering Intern UPM Columbus OH (Fabrisonic) position at United Performance Metals?
An engineering intern at Fabrisonic will assist experienced engineers on a wide variety of projects, gaining practical experience, and developing technical skills under supervision to include, but not limited to, design for additive manufacturing, CAD, CNC programming (CAM) and machining, ultrasonic additive manufacturing (UAM) research and development (R&D) and part production, UAM machine design and integration, and UAM machine maintenance. Interns will learn about materials science, additive manufacturing and ultrasonic welding, CNC machining, quality control, project management, and other skills.
Desired degree programs
Engineering, including mechanical, electrical, aerospace, & welding (other degree programs will be considered)
Responsibilities
- Work alongside senior engineers on real-world projects and providing hands-on assistance
- Provide day-to-day assistance in the manufacturing center
- Learn CAD and CAM, engineering print interpretation
- Learn CNC machining, ultrasonic welding, and additive manufacturing
- Conduct ultrasonic welding and additive manufacturing trials
- Assist in taking notes during internal project and customer meetings
- Contribute to problem-solving by analyzing issues and proposing solutions
- Conduct a full UAM build by the end of the internship
Requirements
- Ability and willingness to learn a new technology
- Willingness to get your “hands dirty”
- Experience with Microsoft Word and Excel
- Mechanical ability (use standard shop tools)
- Metallurgical experience is a plus
- CNC, CAD, and CAM experience is a plus
- Local residents to Columbus are preferred
