Position Summary
The Power BI Developer is to design, develop, and deploy business analytics dashboards using Microsoft BI technologies such as SQL, Power BI, Tableau, etc. This role serves a subject matter expert for data visualization to provide insights and improve business decision-making.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Understand business requirements to set functional specifications for reporting applications.
- Collaborate with internal and external partners to develop novel ways of visualizing the findings of business data.
- Cleans and analyzes a variety of agency data sources.
- Partner internally and externally to understand business data and present key findings to supporting the implementation of process improvements. Presents key findings and summaries of results to stakeholders.
- Performs data quality checks to ensure the validity and cleanliness of agency datasets prior to their use in analysis and reporting.
- Leads training related to PowerBI and SQL technologies.
- Utilizes scripting and querying tools like Python, R or SQL, data visualization/BI tools, statistical methods, and data modeling to produce reports, data files, and dashboards.
- Development of SQL Datawarehouse and Power BI gateway connections with various external source applications.
- Provide technical and administrative assistance to areas for updating and maintaining existing dashboards.
- Expert project management skills.
- When needed, apply statistical methods and techniques to analyze trends, patterns, and correlations in the data
- Other duties as assigned.
Education and/or Experience
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in an Information Technology or Computer Science related field of study.
- 3 years of professional experience working directly in the job scope above.
- 3 year usage of the following tools in a business setting: MS SQL Server BI Stack, including SSRS and TSQL, Power Query, Tableau, MDX, PowerBI, and DAX.
- Ability to understand the data analysis life cycle and its application in a business setting.
- Experience designing and developing Tableau dashboards to build effective visualizations that meet a business need
- Proven project management abilities.
