Position Overview: Provide technical and operational support to the Duluth region, and associated projects, under the supervision of the Quality Control Manager. Administer all aspects of fabrication materials procurement and tracking, as well as other essential QC functions such as weld tracking, documentation, monitor compliance, investigating incidents, and performing regular audits when required.
Essential Functions - The individual in this role must be able to perform the essential functions of the role, and meet the following occupational demands, with or without reasonable accommodation:
- Work with Project Managers, Engineers, and other members of the project team to execute the fabrication and/or construction of new facilities, existing facility improvements, and other UPI projects as assigned.
- Understand, follow, and enforce the requirements laid out in the Quality Management Plan, our customer specifications, and all applicable regulations and standards, consistent with the company’s mission, vision, and values.
- Champion the use of new processes or technology to reduce rework and help manage documentation and work with Management for implementation.
- Ensure the quality system is established, communicated, and implemented by all persons doing work that impacts quality.
- Acts as a resource to the project team and subcontractors.
- Work with on-site client representatives, such as inspectors, in a professional manner that represents UPI’s values and culture.
- Perform as a strong member of the project and company team, taking the initiative to solve problems and seek out tasks.
- Responsible for ensuring that all documents are stored appropriately in the job folder and working with the Project Manager to ensure all documentation is submitted to the client per project requirements.
- Responsible for all aspects of materials as it relates to fabrication in Duluth. Some of the primary functions include:
- Receiving Inspections, including generating and submitting Receiving Inspection Reports as required
- Material Inventory, Tracking & Reporting- (track and communicate what materials are required, what has been received, and what is outstanding)
- NCR Tracking for Materials
- MTR number assignment
- Generate and maintain MTR Log
- Perform takeoffs for material ordering.
- Material Requisitions
- From Customer warehouse or yards (coordination of shipping if required)
- From Vendors (including PO management and communication with PM)
- Management of Customer owned ‘leftover’ materials, and coordination of return shipping if required.
- Management of “Yard Materials”, including temporary hydro-test caps and blinds. Responsible to generate and maintain inventory list of available items, as well as signing out to field projects as requested.
- Additional QA/QC support for fabrication when needed
- Weld tracking and maintaining weld logs for all projects.
- Collecting all weld and heat information as needed to keep fabrication process moving forward.
- Assemble data for As-Builts (weld numbers/mtr numbers logged on drawings) and communicate that to drafters for digitizing and submittal.
- Assist shop Project Engineer with creation of hydro test packages as required.

- Work on a computer for 2 hours consecutively
- Sitting, standing, and moving around an office environment
- Lifting to 20 pounds
Position Type & Expected Hours of Work:
- Due to the significant responsibilities of this role, it is essential it be filled on a full-time basis only.
Travel Requirements:
- This role will require infrequent travel. If travel is required, it may be by auto or by air.
Required or Preferred Education and Experience:
- 0-2 years’ experience with construction material management systems, preferred
- Effective interpersonal, time management, and organizational skills
- The ability to function well under stress, despite numerous interruptions, with accuracy and attention to detail
- Ability to self-motivate and prioritize effectively
- Moderate to advanced computer skills
- Experience with Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook
- Comfortable leading self.
Benefits and Compensation:
This role will be eligible for hybrid work flexibility based out of our Duluth, MN office. The pay range is $50,000-$60,000 depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
