CNC LATHE OPERATOR

Job Title: CNC Lathe Operator | Department: Production | Reports to: Production Manager | FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

JOB SUMMARY:

The CNC Lathe Operator will ensure that the parts comply with the specifications. The ideal candidate will thrive in a fast-paced team environment and provide the highest work ethic. You will operate CNC machines with bar feeders and/or parts catchers in this position. The ability to follow instructions, process inspections, drawings, and specifications is critical to your success at UPC. Experience working in the A&D industry is preferred but not required. 

Qualifications

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Understand the specifications of the task at hand and the desired result by reading blueprints and mechanical drawings
• Prepare and load raw materials and parts onto the machines
• Conduct routine quality assurance test runs on the machine outputs according to specifications
• Monitor machines while in use to maintain output throughout the day by checking for tools wear, making offsets, or replacing tools as needed
• Inspect and measure finished products and compare them with requirements to determine if the process has been completed properly
• Check and perform preventative maintenance on equipment daily and maintain a clean work area.

WHAT YOU BRING TO UPC:

• Strong understanding of machining principles, tool selection, speeds and feeds, and machining strategies.
• Experience with a variety of CNC machines, including 3 and 5-axis lathes, and multi-axis machining centers.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and (GD&T) symbols.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot machining issues effectively.
• Detail-oriented with a focus on quality and accuracy in all aspects of work.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Required

• High School Diploma or GED from an accredited institution.
• 1 or more years of relevant experience
• 1 or more years of relevant manufacturing industry experience
• Experience with high-precision equipment

Preferred

• 3 or more years of CNC operator manufacturing industry experience
• SAP Experience
• Experience with AS9100 and ISO9001
• Vertical turning lathe experience
• Aerospace and defense manufacturing experience
• Experience with ITAR Compliance

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

• Must be able to remain stationary 50% of the time.
• Must operate a computer and other office productivity machinery such as calculators, copy machines, and printers.
• Must be able to operate manufacturing and engineering machinery such as lapping, CNC lathe, milling machines, etc.
• Occasionally positions self to maintain manufacturing and engineering machinery, including under workstations.
• Frequently move raw and treated materials weighing up to 50 pounds across the manufacturing facility for various purposes, as needed.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Work is generally performed in an office/warehouse environment with frequent interruptions and irregularities in the work schedule. No special coordination beyond those used for normal mobility, handling of everyday objects and materials, and using office equipment is necessary to perform the job satisfactorily.
