JOB SUMMARY:

The Controller is responsible for the management and direction of the Accounting Department. You will ensure the integrity of the general ledger and compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). You will work with all departments to develop recurring and special reports using SAP ERP and are responsible for preparing all general ledger information for UPC. The ideal candidate will serve as an advisor on issues concerning the organization's financial projections and develop and administer accounting policies and procedures.

Qualifications

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Manages and monitors all accounts, ledgers, and reporting systems while ensuring compliance with (1) appropriate GAAP standards and regulatory requirements, (2) federal, state, and local requirements
• Implements and enforces consistent accounting policies, practices, procedures, and internal controls
• Manages accounting month-end close, including preparing and/or reviewing balance sheet reconciliations, preparing and/or reviewing journal entries, validating month-end data sync to budgeting software, and reviewing monthly internal financial statements for accuracy
• Responsible for configuration and administration of financial accounting software
• Serves as the primary contact with external auditing firm to coordinate annual financial audit, annual retirement plan audit, and preparation and filing of annual tax returns and state filings
• Performs daily duties related to accounts payable, accounts receivable, bank reconciliations
• Support proposal reviews, annual rate proposals, and reviews/audits with DCAA/DCMA and other external entities
• Works closely with the General Manager to support the annual budgeting process and the development of long-range cash management and investment strategies
• Consult with and report to the General Manager on all significant decisions regarding any of the above.

WHAT YOU BRING TO UPC:

• Comprehensive and advanced knowledge of accounting principles
• Ability to effectively analyze, troubleshoot, and mitigate accounting variances and ensure compliance with financial reporting and other compliance procedures in accordance with UPC standards and GAAP
• Understanding of unrelated business income tax and property tax accounting requirements
• Excellent time management skills, with an emphasis on accounting processes and schedules
• Advanced knowledge of SAP and/or other financial software

Required

• Academic degree in an industry related to accounting
• 8 years of cumulative accounting experience with increasing responsibility that includes:
• Demonstrated experience leading and managing advanced accounting functions and operations, such as compliance and controls, cash management, audit supervision, and financial reporting
• Excellent planning and organization experience, with an emphasis on managing finance systems and policies
• Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office Excel
• Pre-employment checks, such as criminal background, credit, and reference checks.

Preferred

• Certified Public Accounting (CPA) or Certified Management Accountant (CMA) certification.
• Manufacturing industry accounting experience
• Familiarity with Aerospace & Defense accounting practices

WORKING CONDITIONS:                                        

Work is generally performed in an office/warehouse environment with frequent interruptions and irregularities in the work schedule. No special coordination beyond those used for normal mobility, handling of everyday objects and materials, and use of office equipment is necessary to perform the job satisfactorily.
