POSITION SUMMARY:
The person selected for this position will be under the direct supervision of the Site Director and Childcare Director and will be responsible for providing an appropriately safe, caring and enriching environment for the children enrolled in the UP With Kids. Lead teachers are responsible for conducting themselves in an appropriate manner, setting an example for children, parents and coworkers. Teachers are responsible for complying with all standards set by the Iowa State Licensing Bureau and will assist in ensuring that staff adheres to all UP With Kids Daycare Policies and Procedures.
Functions & Qualifications
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Prepare and execute weekly lesson plans based on a weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly themes. Appropriate learning standards must be documented in the lesson plans.
- Be aware of and responsive to various ages, developmental levels, and interests of enrolled children when planning activities.
- Provide daily opportunity for outdoor activity (weather permitting).
- Plan and implement a minimum of one structured activity per day. ‘
- Assist children with feeding, toileting, and personal care as appropriate
- Supervise children’s activities, including participating in group activities, enforcing safety practices, and intervening in a positive manner when children are likely to injure themselves or others.
- Maintain a clean environment.
- Set rules and limits with all children and post in a prominent location.
- Establish discipline techniques that are firm, consistent, and fair to all children.
- Identify children who may have special needs and assist the child in gaining acceptance among peers.
- Uses positive approaches to help children behave constructively.
- Have meaningful interactions with children on a consistent and regular basis.
- Provide a variety of choices, experiences, and opportunities for all children.
- Supervise, train and lead support staff.
- Demonstrate characteristics of a positive role model
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Ability to plan, lead and participate in activities.
- Ability to lift a minimum of 35 pounds.
- Ability to stand for long periods of time.
- Ability to interact with the children on their level
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must be 18 Years Of Age
- Be able to obtain required certifications with in 90 of employment
- Experience working with children of varied ages highly desired.
- Be reliable and dependable.
- Communicate effectively both orally and in writing
REQUIRED TRAINING: Within the first three months of employment. During their first three months of employment, all staff shall receive the following training:
- Two hours of Iowa’s training for mandatory reporting of child abuse.
- At least one hour of training regarding universal precautions and infectious disease control annually.
- Certification in American Red Cross or American Heart Association infant, child, and adult cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) or equivalent certification approved by the Department. A valid certificate indicating the date of training and expiration date shall be maintained.
- Certification in infant, child, and adult first aid that uses a nationally recognized curriculum or is received from a nationally recognized training organization including the American Red Cross, American Heart Association, the National Safety Council, American Safety and Health Institute or MEDIC First Aid or an equivalent certification approved by the Department. A valid certificate indicating the date of training and expiration date shall be maintained
- Health and Safety Preservice Training.
