Summary of Essential Functions
- Responsible for abstraction and reporting of publicly reported quality measures and support the clinical decision-making process through working with teams. Identifying clinical benchmark variance and data integrity for focus to make improvements.
Educational Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Graduate of an accredited professional school of nursing, respiratory therapy, or other professional health care.
- Must be able to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
Licensure and Certifications
- Licensed as a RN, LVN, Respiratory Therapist, or other professional health care provider in the State of Texas.
- LVN or RN preferred but not required.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
- Articulate and able to communicate orally and/or in writing with physicians, department directors, administrators, and allied health professionals.
- Ability to analyze, synthesize, report and manage patient care information obtained through quality assessment reviews.
- Minimum 3-5 years working in the hospital or acute care setting. Ability to build relationships and gain alignment for clinical support and be able to articulate questions to receive an appropriate level of support from superiors and peers.
- Computer and Internet experience required. Familiarity and comfort with MS Office products is essential for success in this position. (Word and Excel required; PowerPoint and Access preferred.)
- Basic statistical knowledge preferred • Quality improvement or patient safety knowledge and experience preferred.
Physical Requirements
- Primarily works the day shift tour of duty; additional hours may be asked to work other hours as needed, including weekends.
- May be expected to lift over twenty-five (25) pounds.
- Hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity with substantial movement of wrist and/or fingers.
- Corrected vision and hearing to normal or near normal range.
- Extended periods of sitting and/or walking depending on specific duties.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Assures accurate Abstraction of publicly reported data from closed medical record review. Proficient attention to detail.
- Meets auditing thresholds set by external auditors.
- Ensures timely submission of all appropriate publicly reported data. Notifies Director of any issues that could cause delay.
- Works collaboratively with vendor and other external support staff to maximize usefulness of the publicly reported data systems. Able to proficiently use software programs to retrieve data and reports.
- Analyzes and disseminates clinical data to various clinical project teams, performance improvement teams and other clinically based entities.
- Maintains knowledge about changes in definitions, data collection requirements and updates, as they pertain to publicly reported data collection and submission.
- Completes data input for hospital quality data base for monitoring of standards compliance.
- Assists in preparing monthly, bi-monthly, quarterly and annual reports.
- Maintains current working knowledge through review of national organizations via list serves, meetings, newsletters and journals.
- Performs all other tasks/responsibilities as necessary.
