Summary of Essential Functions

• Transport laboratory specimens, supplies, and reports between laboratories, hospitals, clinics, and offices in a safe, timely manner while maintaining HIPAA compliance.

Educational Requirements

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Must be able to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.

Certification/Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

• Must be at least 21 years of age with valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
• Must have ability to communicate effectively with healthcare professionals and laboratory staff.
• Must have ability to work unsupervised with emphasis on punctuality and courtesy.
• Must have excellent customer service skills.
• Must have ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Must have ability to read and understand technical information.
• Knowledge of medical terminology and laboratory procedures is beneficial.

Physical Requirements

• Requires standing, walking, bending, and lifting to 50 pounds.
• Requires driving during the entire shift.
• Requires manual hand/finger dexterity, visual acuity, and color vision.
• Requires handling all types of biological and physical specimens using proper blood and body fluid precautions.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Transports specimens and supplies as needed to appropriate destinations in a timely and safe manner.
• Ensures all specimens are placed on electronic packing lists prior to transport; electronically scans all specimens before departure and re-scans all specimens upon arrival at destination.
• Ensures all specimens are properly labeled and packaged for transport.
• Ensures all specimens are securely stored in biohazard cooler and delivery vehicle.
• Ensures all specimens are handled in accordance with safety and infection control guidelines.
• Exhibits professional behavior and obeys all traffic laws when operating a company owned vehicle. Assists in keeping the vehicle clean and refueled as needed. Follows all company policies and procedures when operating company vehicles.
• Reports all accidents involving company vehicles immediately.
• Assists in tracking missing specimens as needed. Follows through until resolved.
• Assists with other assigned specimen processing functions and supportive duties.
• Develops and maintains a professional working relationship with patients, visitors, employees, and members of the medical staff.
• Provides prompt, friendly, courteous, and professional assistance when requested.
• Performs all other tasks/responsibilities as necessary.
