Job Overview:
We are currently seeking a skilled and reliable Roll Grinder to join our team. This is a great opportunity for individuals who enjoy working in a fast-paced environment and are looking to contribute to the success of our organization.
Primary Function:
- Setup and operate roll grinder performing finish grinding such as crowned or tapered finishes on a variety of rolls, pinions, shafts, etc.
Tools and Equipment:
- Roll grinder, taper attachment, grinding wheels, wheel dresser, hand grinder, tool compound, drills and reamers, jib crane, hand tools, and measuring instruments such as wrenches, hammers, pinch bars, preening tools, scales, calipers, rules, templates, saddle gauge, micrometers, indicators, radio controlled crane, chains, cables, slings, equotip hardness testers, etc.
Materials:
- Alloy cast iron and alloy steel rolls, chrome and weld overlay rolls, and other cylindrical work pieces.
Source of Supervision:
- Foreman.
Direction Exercised:
- Helper.
Working Procedures:
- Receives instructions from supervision. Obtains prints and tools.
- Reads blueprints and sketches. Layout work as required.
- Determines proper operation sequence,
- Lifts and positions equipment and materials utilizing material hand lift equipment, hitching and/or assisting in doing same when required.
- Performs crane hitching and operates radio controlled crane to lift, move and position rolls and various other material and equipment as needed.
- Sets up and aligns work piece and auxiliary equipment including taper attachment. Re-center roll if necessary.
- Selects and changes grinding wheels, dresses grinding wheels as necessary. Mount plastic wheels on arbor when rough grinding, as required.
- Determines proper feeds and speeds in accordance with material specifications and finish requirements.
- Operates and adjusts roll grinder performing various finish grinding operations such as crowned or tapered finishes, radii, chamfers, on a variety of rolls, pinions and shafts.
- Use precision measuring instruments to check work in process to assure accuracy and meeting of required final dimensions, finishes, and hardness. Record data on forms as required.
- Works to very close tolerances maintaining co-related dimensions.
- Reports defective material, improper operations, drawing errors and any unusual condition to supervision.
- Records or reports production marks or stamps material, passes on details of work in process to following turn.
- Lubricates and cleans machine as required.
- Keeps work area clean and orderly.
