The United Soccer League (USL) is the heartbeat of American soccer. Impacting more than 200 communities across the United States, the USL is the first and only soccer organization in the United States to build a youth-to-professional pathway for both men and women within one ecosystem. That structure includes three professional leagues: USL Super League (women), USL Championship (men), and USL League One (men); two pre-professional leagues: USL League Two (men) and the USL W League (women); and two youth platforms: USL Academy and USL Youth.

Position Purpose
This entry-level Human Resources Generalist position will assist with a variety of HR functions including recruitment, sourcing, team member engagement activities, onboarding, and more. This position will have a focus on sourcing, recruiting, and onboarding top candidates for positions and internships throughout multiple departments within USL while championing team member engagement and team building.
Duties and Responsibilities
Specific duties include, but are not limited to:
- Support People Operations functions including recruitment, retention, team member engagement, team member relations, learning & development, and more.
- Responsible for the recruitment workflow – reviewing resumes, screening candidates via phone/virtual meetings, conducting reference checks, coordinating in-person/virtual interviews, etc.
- Responsible for building and maintaining a pipeline of qualified candidates for a variety of positions both current and future.
- Utilize and maintain a variety of recruiting outlets to maximize position visibility.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with universities, educational institutions, and staffing institutions to drive potential candidates to USL positions and internship programs.
- Respond to position and application inquiries in a prompt and professional manner.
- Partner with department leaders to create job descriptions and post approved positions to recruiting platforms.
- Partner with department leaders to review current staffing needs and assist with developing staffing action plans.
- Manage United Soccer League’s Work Experience – Internship Program which operates each semester.
- Coordinate various team member engagement activities including volunteer opportunities, gatherings, team member events, etc.
- Provide new hire onboarding & orientation for team members and lead these processes for intern participants.
- Assist with other feedback workflows such as introductory check-ins, performance reviews, and similar.
- Support HR administrative tasks including entering new hire data, auditing team member information and data, maintaining accurate and current team member personnel files, and more.
- Partner with USL member clubs to provide human resources best practices and recommendations to maximize their strategic People Operations.
- Other duties/responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications
- 2 - 3 years of professional human resources experience in a generalist or similar capacity required.
- Associate degree in Human Resources, Organizational Development, Business Administration, or a related field, or equivalent experience/combined education. Bachelor’s degree preferred.
- Professional experience in recruiting and candidate sourcing is required.
- Must be a champion of people and driving engagement & culture within organizations.
- Previous experience with talent acquisition and recruiting platforms preferred.
- Previous experience with HRIS / payroll platforms preferred.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality with sensitive matters and team member information is required.
- Aware of State and Federal law and compliance requirements.
- Strong emotional intelligence is necessary.
- Must be people-oriented, highly engaged, and have a focus on providing an excellent team member, candidate, and member club experience.
- Must be able to maintain a consistent in-person presence at USL HQ.
- Bilingual capabilities in English and Spanish preferred.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills to effectively interact with team members, executives, member clubs, and external partners.
- Ability to work independently in a multi-faceted, fast, fluid, and deadline-driven environment.
- Positive attitude and strong work ethic a must.
- Ability to work as business needs require which may include long days, evenings, weekends, occasional holidays, and travel if / when necessary.
- Must have U.S. work authorization.
Work Environment
Based in Tampa, FL, USL Headquarters provides a vibrant and open working environment designed to promote collaboration, the exchange of ideas, and knowledge sharing. We believe in fostering a culture that encourages creativity, communication, and teamwork.
Currently, USL HQ operates on a hybrid work model. From Monday to Thursday, team members gather in person to harness the power of face-to-face collaboration. This not only strengthens the bonds within the team but also enhances communication and innovation. On Fridays, we transition to a remote work setup, providing our team with the flexibility to manage their tasks in an environment of their choosing.
Typical USL HQ hours are Monday – Friday 8:30am – 5:30pm ET. Evenings, weekends, occasional holidays, and travel may be necessary based on business demands.
