To be considered for this position, candidates must meet specific requirements. These include:
- Meeting strict background and health standards set by the Air Force, Department of Defense, and federal law.
- Possessing a Bachelor's degree in an engineering field related to one of the following specialties: aerospace, aeronautical, astronautical, computer, electrical, electronics, communication, or mechanical.
- Completing the Defence Acquisition University, Fundamentals of Systems Acquisition Management course, or Acquisition Fundamentals course.
- Having a minimum of 24 months of experience in a qualified position, a master's degree in a specified discipline with 12 months of experience, or a Doctor of Philosophy degree in a specified discipline.
- Successfully completing Officer Training School (OTS), Air Force Academy (AFA), or Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps (AFROTC).
- Being between the ages of 18 and not having reached your 42nd birthday.
