Tactical Aircraft Maintenance specialists in the United States Air Force are responsible for ensuring the operational readiness of fighter and attack aircraft. This requires a deep understanding of principles applying to aircraft systems and a strong foundation in mechanical systems and technical skills.

Applicants must meet age, health, and educational requirements to join this specialized field. The Air Force employs hundreds of tactical aircraft to complete its missions, including fighters, strike-fighters and attack planes.

As a Tactical Aircraft Maintenance specialist, you will be responsible for ensuring that every component of these high-performance aircraft is maintained to the most exacting standards. This requires a high level of technical expertise and the ability to work well under pressure.

You will undergo 5 weeks of Basic Military Training before beginning your duties. In addition, a current National Agency Check, Local Agency Checks and Credit report is also required.

Applicants who are non-graduates or non-alternate credential holders must obtain an AFQT Test score of 65 or higher on the ASVAB. You will need to have knowledge of mechanical systems and technical skills to succeed in this role.
