Here's a summary of responsibilities :
The Counsel, Dispute Resolution is the legal counsel responsible for administering and managing all USOPC dispute resolution matters. The Counsel is also responsible for leading and expanding the USOPC's Dispute Resolution Unit (DRU) by creating and implementing improved DRU processes, rules, policies, and procedures.
In close collaboration with and reporting to the Associate General Counsel, Litigation & Dispute Resolution (AGC), the Counsel is responsible for collaborating with and supporting other Legal department members in carrying out the team's duties and functions. The Counsel will also support USOPC leadership in increasing informal resolution efforts and processes with athletes and NGBs, providing subject matter expertise to Games delegations, and educating various Olympic and Paralympic constituent groups on the available dispute resolution functions and resources.
Here's how you'll have an impact :
Lead the administration and management of dispute resolution matters, including oversight and execution of USOPC Bylaws Section 8, 9, 10, and 11 complaints, grievances filed with internally managed sports, Games, and Trials matters, and other matters that arise. Maintain the case management system and historical data to track cases, deliverables, deadlines, and outcomes of all complaints filed with DRU.
Serve as the primary case management contact with parties, party representatives, representatives from the arbitral body, representatives from the Office of Athlete Ombuds, arbitrators, mediators, hearing panel members, or others.Manage the complaint process by enhancing case initiation mechanisms, reviewing complaint filings and party submissions, and promptly corresponding with parties and their representatives. Ensure that all procedural requirements and timeframes regarding processing complaints and other filings are met.In collaboration with the AGC, provide legal support and guidance on policy and other matters relating to DRU efforts. Make informed and professional decisions on issues within the scope of the USOPC Bylaws and DRU policies, rules, and procedures. Utilize discretion and independent judgment by applying high-level knowledge and understanding of the Ted Stevens Olympic and Amateur Sports Act, USOPC Bylaws, policies, rules, and procedures.Manage all aspects of hearing panel matters, including assessing possible hearing panel members for relevant experience and potential appointment; preparing hearing panel members for proceedings on key decisions, points of clarification, and precedent; facilitating hearing panel administrative conferences, preliminary hearings, and evidentiary hearings; and assisting hearing panels with drafting orders and decisions.Proactively identify DRU case administration and management improvements, working closely with internal and key constituents to execute timely and cost-effective improvements.Work closely with the arbitral body to manage the arbitrator pool and develop and cultivate solid relationships with the Team USA Athletes' Commission and National Governing Bodies Council regarding arbitrator appointments and related matters.Lead the development and implementation of annual educational training for arbitrators and hearing panels. Ensure that neutrals remain current on all training requirements (including educational, platform, and SafeSport training) and background checks.Collaborating with the Legal and Compliance departments, develop and present resources to athletes and NGBs to help them better understand DRU matters.Develop and implement a mediation or other alternative resolution program and source for feedback from key constituents and USOPC leadership. Collaborate with the Office of the Ombuds in developing the program to maximize the beneficial use of alternative resolution practices for all types of complaint processes.Refine and improve DRU operations, policies, and procedures as necessary in collaboration with the AGC. Document and update published policies and procedures.Manage the dispute resolution content on the USOPC website by ensuring that all Sections 8, 9, 10, and 11 Awards, Orders, Reports, and Recommendations are promptly posted in the correct citation format and in accordance with the USOPC Bylaws.Lead special projects and initiatives for dispute resolution as necessary.Other Legal SupportProvide legal support and guidance to other practice areas on complex legal issues, as requested by attorneys on the Legal team, including but not limited to Delegation inquiries, to ensure effective and efficient cross-divisional legal decisions are implemented.

Hiring Pay Range : $102,086 - $129,649 per year.This full-time, non-exempt position is intended to work 40 hours per week.Bonus : This position is eligible for the Annual Incentive Award Program with a 15% target.
