What are the responsibilities and job description for the LEGISLATIVE ASSISTANT position at United States Senate?
Senior Northeast Democratic Senator on the Senate Finance Committee seeks an experienced Legislative Assistant to handle the tax portfolio. This senior-level policy position will be responsible for: staffing the Senator’s work on relevant committees of jurisdiction; monitoring pending legislation in assigned issue areas; drafting amendments and bills; recommending legislative strategies within issue area and identifying leadership opportunities for the Senator; meeting with constituents and preparing briefing materials for the Senator; managing and mentoring legislative correspondent and interns. Qualified candidates will be independent self-starters with a demonstrated ability to generate new ideas and work well as part of a team. They will also have superior writing, analytical, negotiation, and organizational skills. Hill experience strongly preferred. New Jersey ties a plus. Salary commensurate with experience.
