Position Description  
 

The Assistant Coach will work with the Women’s National Team Technical and Analytics Staff to support training and game preparation. The Assistant Coach will be responsible for setting up how the opponent will attack and defend throughout the training sessions. The Assistant Coach will support the individual development plans of the finishers (non-starters) and all individual extras on the pitch. This position also serves as a technical liaison with the the WYNT Head of Development, WNT player pathway scout, WYNT Director of Talent ID, and all professional clubs for the WNT. This person will support and uphold the U.S. Way culture and values that positively reflects the U.S. Soccer’s Strategic Pillars.


USWNT – In Camp Roles and Responsibilities 

  •  Work closely with the Technical and Analytics Staff to develop and deliver the tactics outlined in the WNT strategy.
  •  In cooperation with the Technical and Analytics team, contribute to developing game and training strategies.
  • Support the creation of session plans for upcoming events linked to our style of play, game tactics, and our coaching methodology.
  • Work within the style of play and methodology for the WNT when delivering individual, unit, or team on- and off-field sessions.
  • Support the Technical and Analytics Staff with game scenario planning and game day execution.
  • In cooperation with the Technical and Analytics Staff, support in-training and game metrics to track individual players and the wider team against benchmarks for successful players and teams. 
  • Provide players with post-training and game feedback verbally, through the utilization of video and data linked to player objectives and team style of play, as assigned by WNT Head Coach and Lead Assistant Coach.
  • Lead the onboarding of new players into the WNT pool.
  • Support Youth National Teams in camp where and when possible.
  • Understand the current player pool when making comparisons and recommendations and assessing any YNT and WNT “A-List” players for participation in WNT programming.
  • Perform match day duties as assigned by WNT Head Coach, Lead Assistant Coach, and WNT Program Director.

Off Camp Roles and Responsibilities 

  • Work closely and collaborate with WNT, TID, and YNT departments. 
  • Support the building of relationships between WNT, and domestic & overseas clubs.
  • Liaise with TID around individual player tracking and scouting assignments for the WNT pool. 
  • Travel to and attend key dates/games for YNT programming to support assessment of highest potential players in more challenging environment/conditions as assigned by WNT Head Coach and WYNT Head of Development (e.g., Camps, International Games/Tournaments, U23, U-20 and U17 World Cup).
  • Contribute to Technical Projects (e.g., Key Qualities, Position Profiles, Development of P3 Scouting Platform, Tools, and      Templates). 
  • Maintain proficiency with the following technology, tools, platforms, and player monitoring systems: P3, Sportscode, Wyscout, and PowerPoint and/or Keynote and application/inclusion of data and statistics from available sources like Opta, USSF Match and Player Reports, and Statsports for quantitative analysis of individual players. 
  • Undertake a progressive and ongoing personal and professional developmental process by attending and participating in in-house CPD sessions and external sessions.
  • Undertake regular performance assessments to review your individual development plan and on- and off-camp progress with the Lead Assistant Coach, WNT Head Coach, WNT Program Director.
  • Participate in US Soccer “Pro” license course.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by WNT Head Coach, Lead Assistant Coach, and/or WNT Program Director.
  • Upon request of the Head Coach, WNT and Sporting Director, contribute to the US Soccer Coaching Education Programs.

Requirements

  

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher
  • Minimum of 10 years professional soccer experience
  • U.S. Soccer A License or UEFA equivalent
  • Minimum of 5 years player development experience
  • Proficient experience with Microsoft Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Outlook)
  • Experienced in analysis and data tools (sports code)
  • Fluent in the English language  
  • Intrinsically driven and player centered
  • Experienced and open minded to research and innovation
  • A ‘WE’ mentality with a growth mindset 
  • Capable of working in fast-paced and demanding environments
  • Performance under pressure 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication combined with a professional demeanor
  • Must be able to connect “micro” details to the “macro” vision and mission 
  • Able and willing to travel up to 50% of the year
  • Able and willing to work non-traditional hours including evenings and weekends as needed

Desired Qualifications

  • Passion for soccer
  • U.S. Soccer Pro License or UEFA equivalent
  • Bilingual (English, Spanish, or other)  
  • Experience of International soccer and major International tournaments
  • Thorough institutional knowledge of U.S. Soccer’s mission, goals, technical plan, policies, practices, and procedures
