Position Description
The Manager of Refereeing Education and Development should demonstrate strong organizational and planning skills, with the ability to prepare effective teaching materials and deliver engaging presentations. This individual must have extensive experience in and knowledge of refereeing and soccer, combined with excellent project management abilities and the capacity to handle multiple responsibilities simultaneously. A self-starter with a proven ability to meet deadlines, this motivated individual is a “student of the game” who is passionate about learning and growing. Through a strong sense of teamwork and leadership, this Manager will will support refereeing activities, initiatives and education within U.S. Soccer (from Grassroots to FIFA). This role requires close partnership and effective communication with stakeholders across the referee ecosystem, including State Referee Administrators, referees, referee coaches, assignors, and internal U.S. Soccer team members. The Manager will work hand-in-hand with the Director of Refereeing Education and Development to shape and execute the department’s overarching vision while designing and implementing impactful education and development programs.
Primary Responsibilities
- Support the Director of Refereeing Education and Development with the day-to-day activities of the department
- Collaborate with internal U.S. Soccer departments and external stakeholders within the referee ecosystem to foster teamwork and drive the success of projects, deliverables, and key objectives.
- Collaborate on design, development, and implementation of educational and developmental courses, curricula, projects, and programs. This includes reviewing, assessing, and updating learning materials (assignments, resources, requirements) to support both certification and ongoing education
- Provide strategic leadership, guidance, and support for Refereeing Department initiatives and assigned tasks, including events, courses, competitions, etc. Responsibilities include content creation, outstanding execution, and effective communication/collaboration with associated cmponents of the task.
- Develop videos, communications, and social media content to support educational and developmental objectives
- Manage and organize the Refereeing Department “library” of technical materials (courses, presentations, videos).
- Contribute to the development and execution of the Refereeing Education & Development strategy for the U.S. Soccer Refereeing program, driving improvements in refereeing across all levels of the game.
- Participate in the development and planning of all events, ensuring all assignments fall within the constraints of the budget.
- Display strong knowledge of applicable U.S. Soccer and FIFA regulations and standards as well as the Laws of the Game
- Create and maintain positive working relationships with all 55 State Referee Committees and other affiliated members
Requirements
Minimum Qualifications
- B.S./B.A. from an accredited college or university required
- Minimum 5 years of experience working in roles supporting referee development
- High level of referee technical expertise
- Collaborative and passionate about refereeing
- Commanding and credible presence when representing the U.S. Soccer Refereeing program
- Strong ability to build teams, collaborate, communicate, coordinate and partner
- Experience developing training plans and content
- Proven proactive problem solver
- Capable of working in fast-paced and demanding environments
- Ability to deliver high quality work and execute under pressure/deadlines
- Excellent written, verbal communication and presentation skills
- Experience creating video content, plus creating and editing video clips for training and social media
- Proficient experience with Microsoft Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook)
