U. S. Steel is seeking a Management Associate – Drill and Blast Engineer for our Minnesota Ore Operations at our Minntac and Keetac Mines in Mt. Iron and Keewatin. The Management Associate program is our entry level program for college graduates to help accelerate their professional development. Management Associates are provided between 12-24 months of training across multiple functional areas with work assignments designed to assist in both personal and skill-set development. The role may include rotational assignment(s) within the department. This program is designed to strengthen leadership capabilities to prepare the college graduate for advanced roles within our operations or in a number of disciplines that support our operations.

Job Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Apply geologic and related engineering problem-solving knowledge and skills in an open-pit mining environment.
- Work closely with Drill and Blast supervisor to improve drill and blast practices.
- Produce the daily and weekly Drill and Blast plan.
- Design Blast Pattern by using appropriate burden and spacing.
- Monitor, verify, analyze, and report blast movement and performance data.
- Monitor Ground vibrations and air blast/overpressure by setting up seismographs and extracting the readings.
- Weekly reporting on ground vibrations and air blast; adjust practices to improve.
- Work on associated projects with stakeholders relating to Fragmentation Optimization.
- Supervise and direct unionized employees to ensure maximum worker efficiency and safety.
- Be able to consult with and direct mine production personnel in order to successfully execute mine plans of varying lengths.
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Geotechnical, or Mining Engineering
- Must have at least a 2.75 GPA, will accept 2.5 with experience
- Graduated within the last three years from an accredited college or university at the time of hire
- Extensive computer skills and ability to learn new software’s quickly
- Excellent organizational, verbal, and written skills
- Ability to multitask and to work independently
- A willingness and eagerness to learn from others in the organization
- This is a safety sensitive position requiring drug and alcohol testing.
