Job Summary
The GI technician/Endoscopy functions under the direct supervision of a surgeon to assist with the operation of technical equipment used during simple and complex endoscopic procedures. The physician, registered nurse and the GI technician work as a team in the procedure room to provide the optimal conditions in achieving positive patient outcomes. The GI technician is also responsible for cleaning, disinfecting and maintaining endoscopes and other instrumentation. Other GI technician responsibilities include facilitating patient flow, room turnover. Stocking procedure rooms, ordering supplies and performing a variety of clerical duties.

Job Responsibilities
- Demonstrates knowledge and ability to operate equipment used in the process of cleaning and disinfection of endoscopes, using appropriate methods.
- Set up a clean field as necessary for the specific gastroenterological procedures
- Maintains neat, orderly, and safe work area and practices economy in the use of all supplies
- Possess skills and knowledge in the proper handling of equipment after the cleaning/disinfection process is complete.
- Assists with inventory control and stocking of supplies. Monitor for outdated items.
- Acts as a resource person to other members of the health care team.
- Assists visitors, staff, and physicians, utilizing good guest relations.
- Consistently applies good hand hygiene practices.
- Demonstrates commitment to the compliance of quality control checks required for operating sterilization equipment.
- Adheres to all infection control policies, including OSHA guidelines for Universal Precautions for exposure to blood and body fluids, utilizing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and sharps handling.
- Assists in orientation of new personnel.
- Participates in the Quality Improvement Program activities including identification of aspects of care, collection and analysis of data, formulation of recommendations, implementation of an improvement plan and evaluation of process.
- Attends staff and unit meetings and educational opportunities.

- Preferred two years’ experience in endoscopy.
- BLS Certification
