Under the supervision of the Surgical Materials Supply Director with a dotted line to the Director of Perioperative Services, the Surgical Materials Coordinator orders and maintains all implants, supplies, materials, instruments, equipment and consignment items for all specialty areas. The Coordinator confers with team members to verify procedures that require special equipment, instruments, materials, and/or supplies through the utilization of personalized preference sheets created in the computer system. Always works as a team member within the entire facility. Perform other duties as assigned.

The Surgical Materials Supply Coordinator responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

High exposure to hazardous risks and contaminants, including potential for exposure to infectious and communicable diseases, blood and body fluids, electrical equipment, lasers, radiology and fluoroscopy equipment, splashes, chemicals, cleaning solvents, sterilization chemicals, hexacholorphate, betadine, sharps, and wet floors. Temperatures may vary in the environment. May be exposed to a variety of interruptions and odors. Must wear personal protective equipment as the situation dictates. Potential for bodily injury related to lifting, reaching, and pushing.

Essential Functions:
The Surgical Materials Supply Coordinator responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Audit of OR charges for all surgical areas
- Clean up and maintain O.R. perpetual inventory system locations
- Work to identify Cost Reduction initiatives and supply optimization.
- Serves as O.R. initial point of contact for sales representatives
- Maintains effective communication with all key stakeholders and team members.
- Responsible for procuring specialty items for the OR to include implants where applicable
- Responsible for the management of OR consignment inventory
- Ensures surgical supply availability
- Follows processes to ensure customer service standards.
- Participates in initiatives to enhance revenue by optimal utilization of supplies and reduction of surgical services costs.
- Maintains timely and effective communication with staff, physicians, and vendors.
- Ensures appropriate inventory levels are maintained.
- Assures compliance to group purchasing organization agreements.
- Obtains quotes from vendors for new and replacement equipment purchases.
- Upon approval of Director of Surgical Materials Supply and Perioperative Services Director, coordinates trials of new supplies and equipment.
- Works with biomed to ensure new equipment is properly checked into facility, and broken equipment is repaired utilizing Sprocket.
- Ensures that new product is not brought into the facility without approval of implant and supply committee.
- Responsible for procuring non stocks and other specialty items for the OR, including implants well as the vendor returns for these items.
- Responsible for procuring specialty items for the OR to include implants where applicable
- Responsible for the management of OR consignment inventory
- Maintains the inventory status of and provides for ongoing monitoring of implants, supplies, materials, instruments, and equipment to ensure timely ordering and/or replacement of needed, used, damaged, or obsolete items
- Collaborates with vendors, materials management, physicians, and surgical team members to ensure consignment items, special equipment, and/or special supplies are obtained in a timely manner
- Participates in inventory counts
- Participates in the preparation of and opening up of surgical procedures. Satisfactorily demonstrates the knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the duties outlined in this job description as well as continually demonstrates competency in performing the job duties.

- High school graduate or equivalent
- Education: Graduate from Surgical Technology program and/or equivalent clinical training
- Experience: Minimum of one year of relevant clinical and/or materials experience may be substituted for education above. O.R. experience preferred
- Licensure/Certifications/Registrations Required: None
- Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- BLS healthcare required within 30 days of hire, if not currently certified.
- Ability to read, write, and perform mathematical functions required.
