Job Summary : Duties and Responsibilities
This position is responsible for management of nursing service department and for the direction and supervision of all nursing service functions and activities.
- The CNO is responsible for the quality of patient care and ensures that sufficient and properly prepared personnel carry out the functions of Nursing Services.
- The CNO is knowledgeable of social, economic and legal issues affecting the health care systems and seeks all opportunities for keeping staff up to date in health care practices.
- Develops, directs the implementation, and ensures compliance to Standards of Nursing Practice and Standards of Patient Care that promote optimum health care delivery.
- Has the authority to speak for nursing and exercises final authority over those associated with providing nursing care, treatment, and services.
Competencies and responsibilities associated with each position are a combination of hospital wide and department specific standards. The department specific standards include the competencies appropriate to the ages of the customer served. The employees competencies are evaluated on an on-going basis, and formally documented at least annually as part of the Performance Appraisal process.
