United Therapeutics (Nasdaq: UTHR) seeks to travel down the corridors of indifference to develop treatments for rare, deadly diseases. We were founded in 1996 by a family seeking a cure for their daughter’s pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH). Today, we have six FDA-approved therapies that treat PAH, pulmonary hypertension associated with interstitial lung disease (PH-ILD) and neuroblastoma, a rare pediatric cancer. Our near-term pipeline seeks to develop additional therapies for PAH and pulmonary fibrosis (PF). The cure for end-stage life-threatening diseases like PAH, PH-ILD, PF, and many others is an organ transplant, but only a small percentage of donated organs are available to address the vast need. For this reason, we are working to create manufactured organs to address the shortage of kidneys, hearts, lungs, and livers available for transplant. We believe an unlimited supply of tolerable, transplantable organs will eliminate the transplant waiting list and cure end-stage organ diseases for which transplant is not currently an option. The selected intern will need to report onsite at the Silver Spring, Maryland office for the entire duration of the program which runs from May through August 2025. United Therapeutics does not provide housing or transportation. A stipend for relocation assistance may be provided on a case-by-case basis. Interns are responsible for arranging their housing and transportation. A relocation stipend may be provided for non-local candidates. Determinations will be made on a case-by-case basis. 2025 Internship Program Dates: Monday, May 19 – Friday, August 15 Monday, June 2 – Friday, August 29 Who you are This summer, the Interns of Digital Innovation will play a pivotal role in advancing UT’s mission by driving cutting-edge research in AI and biotechnology, facilitating dynamic workshops, and leading self-driven projects that promote innovation across disciplines. Through high-impact communication, multimedia storytelling, and strategic social media engagement—particularly highlighting initiatives like the Shark Tank Program—they will amplify the department’s achievements and inspire collaboration throughout the UT community. 1. AI and Biotechnology Research Assist in designing and building large language models (LLMs) tailored to the department’s objectives. Apply AI techniques to support research in biology, biotechnology, and drug development. Leverage Microsoft Copilot and other AI tools to streamline workflows. 2. Communication and Documentation Produce high-quality written content, including reports, proposals, and presentations, to articulate complex ideas clearly and effectively. Document the department’s activities and achievements, particularly the **Shark Tank Program (The Big Idea)**, by creating engaging multimedia content, including video. Collaborate with contestants and winners of the Shark Tank Program to capture and share their journey. 3. Workshop Facilitation Organize and run workshops focused on digital innovation, AI, and biotechnology applications. Collaborate with diverse participants to foster creativity and problem-solving. 4. Social Media Management Develop and implement a strategy to enhance the department’s social media presence. Create and curate content showcasing ongoing projects, achievements, and thought leadership in digital innovation. 5. Collaboration and Teamwork Work closely with multidisciplinary teams, fostering collaboration and open communication. Engage with internal stakeholders and external partners to support departmental initiatives. 6. Self-Driven Projects Take the initiative to identify opportunities for innovation within the department. Lead independent projects with minimal supervision, demonstrating problem-solving and creativity. This internship provides the opportunity to work on cutting-edge projects in digital innovation, gain exposure to real-world applications of AI and biotechnology, and contribute to impactful initiatives like the Shark Tank Program. Interns will develop new skills, expand their professional network, and leave a lasting mark on our department’s innovation efforts. Minimum Requirements Must actively be a college student pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Biotechnology, Mathematics, Artificial Intelligence, or a related field Familiarity with building and using Large Language Models (LLMs) Proficiency in Microsoft Copilot and related AI tools. Must be available to work up to 40 hours per week Must be able to work in the Silver Spring, MD office 5-days a week Preferred Qualifications Experience or coursework in digital content creation and multimedia editing. Familiarity with social media management platforms and analytics tools.
