Responsibilities
The primary responsibilities for Vascular Technologist (OBL) include, but are not limited to, performing all ordered peripheral vascular, abdominal vascular, and physiologic exams, and assisting physician or provider with arterial and phlebology procedures as needed in clinic or office-based lab. The Vascular Ultrasound Technologist works as an active member of the healthcare team, providing high quality diagnostic ultrasound exams with a focus on safe, effective, and high-quality patient care. Assists in consistent patient education and participates in practice building initiatives and administrative tasks as time permits. May also fill coverage needs in assisting rounding providers in senior living communities and facilities and consulting and assisting advance practice provider in identifying disease in SNF, ALF, and ILF environments.
- Completes ongoing education and competencies as assigned in learning management system prior to due date.
- Adheres to administrative and clinical standard operating procedures.
- Maintains flexibility with given schedule and floats to clinics other than home location as requested by supervisor.
- When not actively engaged with a scheduled patient, assists other staff members with their duties in the spirit of teamwork to ensure effective and efficient clinic operation.
- Adheres to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) guidelines and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standards in wearing appropriate PPE, cleaning, and preparing rooms for procedures.
- Performs patient evaluation and assessment prior to ultrasound examination.
- Perform ordered duplex ultrasound examination and other imaging studies according to UVVC written ultrasound protocols.
- Accurately complete in detail all appropriate reports after finishing each patient exam, following UVVC written ultrasound protocols.
- Maintains an acceptable average score for all Quality Improvement Peer Review audits, performed quarterly. Demonstrates compliance and improvement quarter over quarter, meeting UVVC goals and IAC requirements.
- Ultrasound exams are performed so the physician can provide each patient with a safe and effective treatment plan.
- Submits diagnostic findings that accurately reflect each patient’s disease process.
- Within the limits of safety, adhere to the standard time allotments for each type of scan in order to maintain the smooth and efficient flow of patients throughout the course of the scheduled day.
- Assist the physician during endovenous thermal, non-thermal, microphlebectomy, arteriogram, and or venogram procedures.
- Collaborate with other clinic staff in the set-up and clean-up of the treatment rooms before and after each session to maintain efficient patient flow.
- Maintain equipment and image storage.
- Assist with management of supply inventory.

Qualifications
- Must have an RVT or RVS certification from an accredited ultrasound program or be eligible to sit for vascular credential within 3 months of hire.
- Required skill set: arterial system (abdominal and peripheral vascular) and venous system (abdominal/pelvis and peripheral vascular).
- Current Basic Life Support for Healthcare Provider (AHA).
- Must be able to adapt to a fast-paced environment.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
- 2-3 years of previous ultrasound experience in a vascular lab or similar setting preferred.
- Exceptional attention to patient care and bedside manner.
- Dependable; able to meet reliable attendance and punctuality standards.
- Demonstrate desire to learn, grow, and maintain knowledge of industry standards by joining groups, attending meetings, reading journals, and performing research.
Intersocietal Accreditation Commission (IAC)
- If not already certified, must obtain vascular credentials (RVT, RVS, RPhS) within 3 months of hire.
- If certified, must maintain vascular ultrasound credentials by being in good standing with CCI or ARDMS and earning the appropriate amount of CME each cycle period. Supervise noncredentialled sonographers, adding name and credentials to their studies upon satisfactory study review.
- Once credentialed, must obtain a minimum of 30 CME hours every 3 years which focus on vascular ultrasound.
- Actively participate in Quality Improvement initiatives such as bi-yearly QI meetings, Journal Club, Peer Review Audit Process, workflow, and safety optimization activities.
