Position Title: Community School Coordinator – Walker County
Reports To: Place-Based Partnerships Director - Community Impact
Position Summary:
The Community School Coordinator works with school staff, community partners, and United Way program staff to plan, develop, implement, and sustain a Community School approach to providing programs and services to students, families, and community members. The Community School Coordinator works with school district staff and community partners to enhance social services and academic supports for students, facilitates active family and community engagement, promotes access to key community resources, and leverages resources to build the capacity for Community Schools within Walker County. The Community School Coordinator will be based in a Walker County or Jasper City School facility.
Responsibilities:
- Coordinates a Community School Leadership Team comprised of school leadership, families, students, and community-based organizations.
- Assists with recruiting new partners and expanding established programs for families and students.
- Supports student achievement through promoting in-school and out-of-school programs and services.
- Engages and supports parents and families through ongoing educational and skill-building opportunities for community members.
- Serves on school and district-level teams focused on supporting students and families.
- Identifies and secures financial resources to build capacity for Community School programs and services.
- Works with school and community partners to ensure programs and services are integrated and aligned with the mission and goals of the school.
- Serves as the liaison between community organizations, school administration, and United Way staff.
- Facilitates the development and implementation of an annual Action Plan for each school location to incorporate results from community engagement in student and family services.
- Communicates programming and services to students, families, and community members.
- Assists with collecting and organizing data for evaluation and continuous improvement efforts.
- Performs other duties and projects as assigned.
Qualifications:
Knowledge & Skills:
- Knowledge of education and/or youth development systems and planning processes.
- Excellent customer service skills, with the ability to assess needs, troubleshoot problems, develop solutions, and manage expectations.
- Ability to coordinate, balance and manage multiple projects and priorities.
- Familiar with a trauma informed perspective in planning and implementing student and family services.
- Strong professional verbal and written communication skills.
- Successful experience in group facilitation, volunteer management and community problem solving.
- Willingness to continually grow and develop knowledge of local organizations and potential partnerships.
- Eagerness to learn about and grow community knowledge of United Way and partner agencies.
- Ability to organize and supervise collaborative efforts involving multiple organizations and partners
- Ability to motivate self and others.
- Must be able to demonstrate competency in word processing and Power Point applications, and a working knowledge of excel and database management.
Education:
Bachelor’s degree required, with focus in Education or Social Services preferred.
Experience:
Experience providing program management within education, health or social service agency preferred.
Background in community planning and organizing, volunteer management or project management preferred.
Required:
Valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and proof of automobile insurance. Must pass a background check.
Working Conditions:
Position will be located within a Walker County or Jasper City School location. Some travel and occasional overtime required. Schedule flexibility is required for late afternoon, evening and weekend events.
