OVERVIEW :
The Director, Gift Planning will grow and manage a portfolio of principal gift-level ($100,000 ) prospects and donors and identifies, cultivates, solicits, and stewards these individuals to secure commitments of endowment and planned gifts. The Director builds and maintains positive, productive, sustainable relationships with donors on behalf of United Way of Greater Houston. Responsible for implementing an endowment program and expanding the planned giving program. Serves as part of the Principal Gifts Team and will help create and implement short and long-range solicitation strategies to meet fundraising goals and objectives, as well as coordinate and support principal gifts stewardship.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITES :
Portfolio Management : Identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward endowment and planned giving prospects and donors. Develop an annual and multi-year work plan and strategies, with emphasis on proposal success rate for a portfolio of endowment and planned giving prospects. Conduct a minimum of 8 individual donor visits a month.
Communications : Develop endowment and planned giving marketing / communication information and materials with assistance from the Marketing & Communications Team. Establish communication plans with current and prospective endowment and planned giving donors. Coordinate with affinity and recognition group staff to promote to donor members of these groups, including outlining a growth plan for the Alexis de Tocqueville Society Legacy Circle.
Donor and Prospect Information Tracking and Reporting : Refine and maintain tracking and reporting related to endowment and planned giving. Ensure activity is recorded in electronic donor records in a timely manner. Monitor and incorporate information about donors identified via FreeWill through United Way Worldwide. Track planned gift expectancies in donor database and communicate secured gifts with Accounting department.
Stewardship : Initiate strategy and coordinate Principal Gifts Team stewardship efforts. Maintain and serve as the primary resource for endowment and planned gift donor stewardship information.
Policy Development : Update and finalize gift acceptance, planned giving, and endowment policies in coordination with senior leadership.
Funding Opportunities : Develop and maintain a list of endowment funding and funded opportunities in coordination with senior leadership. Facilitate the incorporation of endowment and planned giving opportunities and gift agreements into principal gift proposals as appropriate.
