United Way of Greater Cleveland is a “Flexible First” organization. “Flexible First” means that we embrace a hybrid model that allows employees to work both remotely and at our existing office. Employees will regularly work at our existing office for approximately 10 to 80 percent of their time each month based on business / operational needs, and the rest of the time they may work from a remote physical location of their choice within a reasonable commuting distance from the office which must be identified to the organization in advance. Human Resources and Hiring Manager will set expectations on the employee’s preferred time in office with consideration to business / operational needs. UWGC has not defined a reasonable distance and expects employees will use judgment in determining this for themselves and understand the implications re : time commitment and cost of daily commute.

Purpose of Position :

The Benefit Enrollment and Assistance Specialist is a grant funded position that is responsible for assessment, advocacy and enrolling older or disabled adults in public or private benefits and linking them with the appropriate resources for assistance of health and human services. Assesses the health, financial or human service needs of an individual and assists them with information and application forms. Acts as a liaison in helping them to obtain benefits or health and human services.

Full time 8 : 00am - 4 : 30pm, $21.00 an hour

Monday, Wednesday, Friday - home

Tuesday, Thursday - office

Duties and Responsibilities :

  • Through the Aging Disability Resource Center (ADRC), assists individuals through telephone, email, texts, or in-person communications communicating services
  • available. Assistance may be emergency financial assistance or referrals to other human service providers.

  • Implement processes according to policies, procedures and protocols. Conducts comprehensive assessments used in determining eligibility for public and private benefits.
  • Assists individuals as needed with the process of completing application forms or applying for benefits. Acts as an advocate or authorized representative for providing required timely documentation for obtaining new benefit plans or for renewing benefit plans.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with individual clients. Provides accurate and pertinent information. Establishes rapport through professional courtesy and being sensitive to confidential information.
  • Maintain a current knowledge of public and private benefits available to effectively locate benefits or programs for the individual. Includes maintaining a knowledge of Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security and employment programs.
  • Manage financial assistance programs. Responsible for stewardship and complying with guidelines for appropriate use of Salvation Army, Senior Discretionary Fund or other funds that are available to meet the emergency financial needs of Geauga neighbors.
  • Maintain accurate data records for individual clients; documents demographics, benefits, funds or services provided, and other information relevant to their case.
  • Conduct follow-up and quality assurance calls and conducts surveys with individuals in order to obtain feedback about the benefits received. Acts as a liaison on their behalf in dealing with agencies or providers in order to assist them with assistance.
  • Research trends and best practices. Represent United Way at health fairs or community events. May present on benefits, funding programs and services United Way provides.
  • Relationship and Resource Management
  • Work to establish and maintain relationships with community leaders and stakeholders or agencies in order to support the initiatives of the ADRC.

  • Assist in the research and identifying partnerships and funding sources used for securing external, financial and in-kind support for projects.

    Required Education and Experience :

  • Minimum High School diploma or the equivalent
  • 2 years of administration support or other relevant experience.

  • Ability and means to travel on a flexible schedule as needed, proof of liability and property damage insurance on vehicle used is required

  • Employees may need to occasionally lift up to 25 lbs.
  • The noise level in the office work environment is usually minimal
