Position Overview:
The Manager for Local Food Initiatives coordinates the design, implementation, and evaluation of a Local Foods education program for emergency food programs (EFP) participating in our Local Produce Link and Nourish NY initiatives to achieve UWNYC’s Hunger Prevention and Nutrition Assistance Program and Nourish NY grant goals. They will support the direct procurement of farm fresh produce, foster collaboration and understanding between NYS farmers/producers and EFPs, as well as empower EFP operators and clients to learn about and enhance the utilization of locally grown/produced foods. The Manager for Local Food Initiatives also conducts compliance site visit reviews to EFPs in all 5 boroughs and supports the nutrition team in creating educational materials and workshops to ensure EFPs have the necessary nutrition and food safety knowledge and skills to maintain operational standards. This position also provides general program support to the Food and Benefits Access Unit and assists the Senior Director, Nutrition Programs, to ensure that nutrition resource program deliverables are met.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Implement Local Produce Link farm-to-food pantry program. This includes: managing farmer contracts and relationships to directly procure and deliver farm fresh produce to EFPs during the growing season, overseeing EFP compliance with grant requirements, and providing technical assistance to help address operational concerns
- Design and implement culturally appropriate evidenced-based educational programming on regional food systems, local foods, agriculture, and nutrition to engage UWNYC grantees and their EFP clients.
- Document and analyze program outcomes data, using Results Based Accountability Framework to track nutrition team goals.
- Conduct in-person site visits to monitor funded EFPs for compliance with food distribution, reporting, and communication requirements and provide onsite technical assistance.
- Supports the nutrition team in implementing virtual and in-person nutrition and food safety workshops for EFP operators.
- Contribute to monthly newsletters to provide EFP operators with timely and relevant nutrition and food safety materials.
- Supervise Master’s level Dietetic Interns and consultants as needed
- Other duties as assigned.
Skills, Knowledge, and Experience:
- Registered Dietitian Nutritionist with a minimum of two years of experience in community nutrition/public health.
- Bachelor's degree Required in nutrition, public health, or related field of study. Master’s degree preferred.
- Knowledgeable about community nutrition, regional food systems, and community food insecurity issues and policies in NYC.
- Bilingual in English and Spanish, preferred.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Excellent organizational, project management, and negotiation skills with ability to collaborate with diverse groups of people.
- Detail-oriented, self-motivated, driven, proactive, collaborative, flexible, and good-natured.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, including Excel, and Google Sheets; experience with Canva or Adobe InDesign a plus.
- Must be willing to travel on public transportation within the 5 boroughs of NYC.

Salary Range:
- $65,263-$77,798
- The final determination of salary, within this range, will depend on the candidate’s education, skills and experience required for the position.
