JOB SUMMARY:
The Director of Development leads the day-to-day operations in the United Way of Northern Nevada and the Sierra’s efforts to fundraise and build relationships that advance its mission. This role focuses on cultivating donor relationships, managing corporate partnerships, and driving the processes of philanthropic engagement. The Director is a key member of the Resource Development and Marketing team and serves as the primary facilitator of United Way’s fundraising efforts.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Resource Development:
- Identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward relationships with individual, corporate, and foundation donors to meet and exceed revenue goals.
- Oversee the management of workplace campaigns, developing strategies to improve engagement and participation.
- Collaborate with the Community Impact and Marketing teams to craft compelling messaging and donor-centric content.
- Ensure accurate and timely donor recognition and reporting.
- Oversee the grant development process, including research, application, reporting, and compliance, with support from the Grant-Writing team.
Community Impact:
- Work cross-functionally with the Community Impact team to align fundraising/engagement efforts with programmatic needs.
- Communicate the outcomes and impact of UWNNS programs to donors and stakeholders, emphasizing the organization’s role in creating measurable change.
- Utilize data and research to demonstrate UWNNS’s impact and support case-making for fundraising initiatives.
Community Engagement:
- Represent UWNNS at corporate events, meetings, and public engagements to enhance visibility and promote partnerships.
- Build relationships with community leaders, corporate partners, and civic organizations to increase engagement with UWNNS.
- Develop and execute innovative corporate volunteer opportunities that connect businesses with UWNNS’s mission.
- Serve as a spokesperson for UWNNS in fundraising and engagement efforts, effectively articulating the organization’s mission and vision.
Leadership & Team Collaboration:
- Work closely with the Senior Vice President, Marketing & Development, and other team members to ensure alignment between fundraising, marketing, and programmatic strategies.
- Collaborate with the Grant-Writing team to ensure alignment between fundraising activities and budgetary needs.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree required in Business Administration, Communications, Public Administration or a related field.
Experience:
- Minimum of five years in fundraising, sales or related field.
- Two years in a management or supervisory role preferred.
- Proven track record in meeting fundraising or sales goals.
- Experience in grant writing/proposal creation, donor stewardship/account management, and corporate partnerships.
Skills:
- Ability and willingness to make the ask.
- Exceptional interpersonal and relationship-building abilities.
- Strong strategic thinking and procedural skills, with the ability to align fundraising efforts with organizational goals.
- Proficiency in donor database management (e.g., CRM systems).
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to craft compelling proposals and presentations.
- Strong project management and organizational skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively and effectively manage a diverse team.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Must have a reliable vehicle, valid driver’s license, and auto insurance to travel as needed.
- Ability to work evenings or weekends for events and campaigns as required.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit for up to 3.5 hours, speak clearly, and hear callers when answering the phone.
- The employee is required to move throughout the office to perform office duties.
- The employee is required to travel out of the office to attend meetings, events and other functions as per their job description.
