POSITION SUMMARY

Eligible for Hybrid / 3 days in office - Alexandria, VA)

The Director of Annual Giving is responsible for developing and executing a comprehensive annual giving strategy that drives donor acquisition, retention, and revenue growth for United Way Worldwide. This role will lead multi-channel fundraising efforts, including digital campaigns, direct mail, and workplace giving initiatives. The Director will work collaboratively with internal teams and local United Way affiliates to cultivate and engage a broad base of donors.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES / ESSENTIAL DUTIES OF POSITION

  • Develop and Implement Strategy : Create and execute a data-driven annual giving strategy that enhances donor engagement and increases unrestricted revenue.
  • Multi-Channel Fundraising : Oversee and optimize direct mail, email, digital, and workplace giving campaigns to maximize donor acquisition and retention.
  • Donor Stewardship & Engagement : Design stewardship programs to enhance donor loyalty, including recognition strategies, impact reporting, and personalized outreach.
  • Workplace Giving & Employee Engagement : Collaborate with corporate partners and local United Ways to enhance workplace giving campaigns and employee engagement strategies.
  • Analytics & Performance Measurement : Leverage data analytics to monitor campaign effectiveness, donor behavior, and fundraising trends, making data-driven adjustments to improve results.
  • Collaboration & Leadership : Work cross-functionally with marketing, donor relations, and regional fundraising teams to ensure cohesive messaging and campaign alignment.
  • Budget & Vendor Management : Oversee budget allocation for annual giving initiatives and manage external vendors for campaign execution.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in nonprofit fundraising, with a strong track record in annual giving and direct response fundraising.
  • Expertise in multi-channel fundraising, donor segmentation, and donor journey mapping.
  • Strong knowledge of CRM and donor database management (e.g., Salesforce, Blackbaud, or similar platforms).
  • Experience managing workplace giving campaigns and engaging corporate partners.
  • Excellent communication and storytelling skills to inspire donor engagement.
  • Strong analytical and project management skills with the ability to handle multiple campaigns simultaneously.

    SALARY STATEMENT

    The budgeted lifespan salary range for this position is currently $140,000 to $160,000 per year. Salary is determined by several factors including applicant’s knowledge, ­­­skills, experience, position, equity, and market.
