In addition to the regular phlebotomy duties, the Phlebotomy Supervisor is responsible for scheduling and ensuring that all sites are staffed, ordering supplies, monitoring other phlebotomists to ensure compliance and acting as the liaison between clients and the lab. He/she shall perform duties in alignment with the vision and values of United WestLabs, Inc. The person doing this job is responsible for a variety of tasks that lead to a high level of quality of customer care and satisfaction in a cost-effective manner.
Duties and Responsibilities may include but are not limited to:
- Perform phlebotomy professionally, competently and with compassion for the patient.
- Maintain a safe and clean environment for all staff members and patients, including without limitation, collecting and disposing of specimens and other contaminated material in accordance with established policies and procedures and with adherence to the appropriate standards of infection control and body fluid precautions and protective equipment when necessary.
- Ensure that all phlebotomists complete requisitions properly including patient demographics, diagnosis, insurance and physician information, and all other forms that are required by UWL’s policies and procedures
- Accurately collect all specimens necessary to fulfill the clients’ lab orders.
- Provide accurate communication to clients and their staff regarding the proper ordering of lab tests.
- Ensure that draw stations are kept clean and adequately stocked with supplies every day.
- On a daily basis, communicate with the Operations Supervisor about any issues that arise
- Schedule Phlebotomists and ensure all sites are staffed appropriately
- Be able and ready to fill in for another phlebotomist if needed.
- Train new and current phlebotomists on any compliance updates or procedural changes.
- Counsel and discipline phlebotomists under the direction of the Operations Manager.
- Assist in completing and conducting annual reviews with the direction of Operations Manager.
- Assist Operations Manager and Sales team in setting up new draw site locations.
- Assist Operations Manager with the recruiting process by scheduling and interviewing candidates.
- Ensure that ALL draw sites are in compliance inspection of sites to ensure a clean and safe work environment.
- Ensure that all phlebotomists are compliant in following
- the insurance list and sending all required insurance’s to SJRL by doing routine audits of the requisitions and draw sites.
- If a phlebotomist works for UWL and are located within a physician’s office, he/she is not permitted to do any work for the physician and/or the physician’s medical practice, the sole responsibility is to collect specimens to be sent to a UWL client’s laboratory.
